Boy this score wasn't easy to get with the i5 6400, I felt like the parent of a kid in prep school constantly and aggressively pushing him to be a lawyer or an Asian parent pushing their kid to be a doctor. At this point the chip really doesn't wanna go any higher, that won't stop me from trying to push it from 4.59GHz to 4.86GHz though, I might switch to an even more extreme cooling method and seriously up the voltages, but I can't go any further without enabling the LN2 mode, as it goes "whoa too much voltage".

Obviously I'm not using ambient cooling, Phase change with sub zero liquid if anyone is wondering.

Is the gains worth the trouble at all though?

Well I only did it for the sake of overclocking this chip as far as it'll go, the voltages are kinda insane lol, but not insane enough yet.

Some call it trouble, others call it tinkering and having fun.

@Lord Nicoll If you're using phase change already, what kind of cooling setup are you thinking of upgrading to? Can't imagine LN2 would be very practical

Does you mum know you're here?

Gosh I feel bad for the chip... I did considered trying to overclock my locked 7700 through BLCK since I got a TS15A cooler that could keep it still acceptably cold but it feels like so much work...

I'd probably go to a direct cooling method for the phase change, currently it is running though chilled liquid, which is an easy to set up (much easier than LN2, Dice, or an evaporator head for phase change), that is why the socket temp is only 16°C. I've been meaning to get a CPU cooler type phase change cooler for a while, and I don't wanna have to sodomise my board for LN2 (you kinda have to plastidip the whole board at least) and the Maximus VIII Formula (my board) is too pretty and also my main rig lol.

Great job :)

Would it have been more efficient to use a 6500 since the base clock is a bit higher, or would that not matter?

The i5 6500 is a better chip for overclocking, but you gotta piss with the cock you got, and I like a challenge. For non K chips the normal i5 6600 would probably be the best since it is binned for a high base clock.

Okay, just wondering. Nice job with yours though. I'd be way too scared to go that high without knowing actual temp values

Well, the non-K overclocking BIOS means I can't view the core temps, only the sensor asus put in the socket, so it a bit bad, but on stock clocks it runs about 20°C (core temps works at stock) and then under 0°C at idle.

Well I tried for 4.86 and failed, and tried for 4.725GHz and also failed, at which point a PLL termination voltage of 1.46 is too much for even subzero ethylene glycol.

1.52 vcore ? Thats very very high xD lolll

Is this for experimentation / fun ? if so, all good,

If for long term, goddamn your rough with ur cpu :)

Yes, with LLC though it was more like 1.55volt, it for mainly for the HWbot score, so far I'm 8th out of 16, but the chip is back to defaults for a while while I brew up the currage to knock my board into LN2 mode and maybe got to direct chilled liquid.
