Well, both cards have a 384-bit bus, so neither one has the advantage at higher resolutions. But the 280x's have much more raw power, if you don't mind putting up with some games not utilising Crossfire then I would go for the 280x's, but if you just want ease of access then the 780ti would be a simpler choice.

2x 280x will smash a 780ti but if you get the 780ti its allows for SLI in the future which would beat the 280x's

780ti to avoid crossfire issues, it will perform very close to the 280s but use less power, less noise and heat.

780ti is like 2 times better than the 290

ummm not really? do you not read bench marks and watch reviews?

yeah its better then the r9 290. but not by 200%. maybe like what? 40%?

a decent non ref r9 290 will make a bigger punch difference then the 780ti non ref.

thats because ref 780ti cooler is actually pretty decent.

if you can put a decent cooler on a r9 290 and manage to overclock it back up to even 75 degrees, chances are itll match an overclocked 780ti with ease.

EDIT - i can get 2 r9 290s for the price of one 780ti.

and that would be 2x better then the 780ti.

No It won't be 2x better ...

Aftermarket 780 Ti beats the 7990 in recent benchmarks.

Two 280x in CF (aka 7970 Ghz) might be a bit faster than a 780 Ti, but they won't 'smash' it.

okay yeah i agree, thats a bit of a hyperbole. but 2 r9 290s, overclocked with non ref coolers will be alot closer to 2x better than a 780ti, compared to a 780ti to a single r9 290

Non reference R9 290. Much more performance for the money, you could even buy another 290 since you saved money in the first place.

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 4,6GHZ OC MB: MSI Mpower z77  RAM: Kingston Genesis 1600Mhz CL9 16GB

GPU: ASUS R9 290 Direct CUII  PSU: Corsair AX 860

Definitely go with a GeForce GTX 780Ti and consider SLI in the future. Almost always go with the best single card you can get now and add another later.

not at all i almost always go AMD for my graphics cards. my last 3 were AMD cards.... he was taking about the 290 not the 290x. the 780Ti smashes the 290.

and it should. the price difference is pretty big
