Why do you think there was a GTX 590 but no GTX 690 ect?

There was a GTX 690.

 

But I think nvidia just saw there is not a huge market for dual GPU cards. The last dual GPU cards I can remember are the Titan Black from Nvidia and the R9 295X2 from AMD. Both were quite pricey cards to say the least  and as for the AMD card, it was really just two R9 290X cards, so people who needed that amount of power know enough about PC's to get two of those..

Titan Z is what you mean.

 

390 Dual Core was from PolorColor as well. Not from AMD but an AIB instead.

I remember that. It came with a mouse and took up 3 freaking slots. Huge, warm running card. 

 

It didn't sell super well iirc

That just means there's really no market for dual GPU cards. As much as I love the look of dual GPU cards, I have to respect that there's no market for dual GPU cards, especially now considering multi-GPU scaling (both SLI and CrossFire) is going downhill.

 

Remember, the reason why they're power hungry is because there's two GPU cores present on dual GPU cards, so it's no surprise at all.

I know, I know. The 390s ran hot out of the box, imagine two on one PCB with air cooling somehow..

Yep, and Nvidia did the same thing with their last dual GPU card: the GeForce GTX Titan Z. Air cooled and that damn sucker ran hot like hell.

 

The GTX Titan Z's TDP is rated at 375 watts max.

Uh Radeon Pro Duo is pretty new....

I remember cards like the ASUS MARS II, those were pretty awesome. I think it's more of a "look at how cool I am" factor. Almost nobody would buy those. I think the Radeon Pro Duo is the last beast of a card.
