Haha, I'm a nuclear engineer by training, I understand quite well the QM issues that pose massive issues in control (and the lithography issues that are lowering yields).

I thought it was because they've been lying through their teeth to us about process size and now they've hit a wall

To be fair, NVIDIA proved that with some clever engineering, process sized be damned. Kepler and Maxwell both were made on the same process node, but Maxwell somehow ended up being a much better performer.

 

Honestly, I think we've relied on Moore's Law too much to carry the weight of our design problems.

I'm only keeping an eye out for price drops in response to AMD. Hope that makes headlines when it happens cuz otherwise it's gonna fall right under my radar.
