Best lga 775 / 771 cpu

What is the best and fastest cpu for the lga. 775/ 771  socket? I want to make a htpc / emulator build and I would like to have a Decent amount of cpu performance for pcsx2/ dolphin. Overclockable would be nice.

old school should be avoided, ideally. Unless you've a hard-on for ancient stuff.

The fastest, most powerful 775 CPU would be a hard find. Then there's boards and ram. Which is fun.

Just not worth it imo.

Your best bet is probably a Q6600, which are cheap, but it's going to be slower than the G4560

So there's no 771 xeon that can outperform a kaby lake pentium?

Maybe in multi-threaded stuff like rendering in premier or cinebench

but emulation is mostly down to single threaded performance, which the G4560 will do well in

did you already have a GPU for the machine?

Here's an i3 6100 which is basically the same CPU + RX 460

And here's another i3 + 750ti running a pretty hard game to emulate, I wonder if it could do MGS3

I think pcsx2 uses avx/avx2 and those pentium don't have it.

I think I may just wait till prices drop for Intel stuff and just grab a cheap i5. Unless I can find a lga 2011 board on the cheap

You don't want old xeons with low clock speeds, you want something with high clock speeds

Look around for PCSX2 stuff for the G4560, or just buy an i3 6100/7100

Seen some people OC to 4ghz. Its gonna depend more on the motherboard. Dunno how well your mobo can manage OC.

Just know the processor I listed is a Xeon with an old sticker mod to make it work on 775 boards. You can always buy an actual qx9650 if that doesnt suit you.

CPU: Amd 7800X3D | GPU: AMD 7900XTX
