Ryzen 1700 is more expensive than i7 7700 in South korea

In south korea, a Ryzen 1700 costs $419, but a Core i7 7700 costs $369. Aren't AMD Ryzen chips supposed to be cheaper than Intel?

Also, A Ryzen 1700x is $100 more expensive than a i7 7700k.

Interesting.  Maybe it won't be the smashing success everyone is predicting if the price, which frankly is the main selling point, isn't universally better than Intel.

For similarly equipped processors (4c/8t Ryzen vs a Core i7), Ryzen is supposed to be quite cheaper. But we're comparing to a 8c/16t Ryzen, so while paying more, you're getting more bang for your buck if you can benefit from more cores (streaming, gaming whilst having an internet bowser open, media creation, virtual machines). Otherwise, Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 processors should be less expensive and still provide at least 4 cores, with similar clock for clock performance (only slightly behind, mind you).

The R7 1700 is supposed to compete with the i7 7700K in terms of price. Likewise with the R7 1700X and the i7 6800K.

 

Those prices sound about right.

8c/16t vs 4c/8t. Still a good deal if one can use the cores. Price/performance is still a huge selling point.

Ryzen 1700 $429 CAN vs intel 7700k $459.  Recent price drop on the 7700k though

Intel has manufacturing factories in south Korea, since they are made domestically they dont pay importation taxes, AMD Ryzen on the other hand is made elsewhere therefore it has to pay the heavy importation taxes there are causing it to be more expensive
