I've got 2 titans that I've watercooled, and it's getting depressing getting 5757 point core 15 units over and over again.  I have the "client-type advanced" flag, but I keep getting these low point work units.  I've gotten ~15000 core 15 units before as well.  Any tips to help get a core 17 other than just hope?

They seem to be in short supply. I got a few yesterday, but a lot of 15's have been showing up

The client type flag doesn't always guarantee you will get a Fahcore_17 work unit. If they're available your client will get one, if not then it will get a Fahcore_15 (Fahcore_16 should have run out by now...)

I understand your argument with the Titans, but with 2 760s it took me three weeks before I saw any Core 17 WUs. Those lasted for approximately a week, and when I woke up this morning it was back to Core 15s.

I guess they come and go. I know it is really exciting when you get some Core 17 WUs though.

Yeah Nvidia is stuck with a bunch of core15 WUs with the occasional core17 WU. AMD has a constant supply of core17 since there are very little core16 WUs.

i have been folding core 16 units for over a month having a constant 2k ppd on my 7950... i still did them .. they still have to be done like every other work unit out there, remember why we do this guys, it's to contribute not ONLY to grab them points.

ok i get it but if you have hardware that has costed over the 1K euro's you would excpect to get a good work unit and not a work unit with low score's. then the energy waste would be a problem.

having high ppd doesn't really count the overall job being done towards the project, and when you have low ppd you should check out how hard the cpu or gpu is actually working, if it's like 40% it isn't drawing that much power either, ofcourse you shouldn't expect to be exclusivly given high point work units simply because you have some decent hardware, again remember what you are actually doing here.

my power drawnage is constant 650Watts on any project. evry project is pulling 100% usage.

im saving money now to make a 4p system that will save me 30 euros on the electricity bill

Core17 really messed things up as far as I am concerned. For the longest time, people where very happy with Core15 and Core16 - they were optimized over the previous generation. :)

Now, according to the news, they should be releasing more Core17's and you won't need the client-flag any more. As we grind out these old ones, then we should see a lot more 17's available.

  • 1 month later...

Thanks again, everybody, for chiming in; I've finished nearly 40 WUs (had to take time off for a massive upgrade, 3570k on MVG to 3930k on RIVBE) and I still haven't caught a core 17.  I'm going to try the beta flag to see if it makes a difference.  It makes me a little upset that 7970s are getting more than 100k and 2 titans aren't even getting 80k (5x more money and ~2.6x the SP compute).  I agree that we should just grind through them, but the idea of the point system was to get people to compete.  I paid for the hardware and I should be getting at least some (just 1 or 2 in 50 would be nice) of the bigger units so I see my my points going up quickly and then I'll want to keep contributing.  Otherwise it makes the idea of competing seem stupid.  100k PPD on ~6k of hardware is maddening.  Especially when a ~$300 7970 can do better than my whole PC.

a 7970 will ONLY do better with a core 17 unit though, you would get higher numbers with core 17 aswell, if anything the red team get's extremely low ppd on anything other than core 17, moreso than the green team.

you can go weeks without seeing a core 17 unit, but then suddenly you might get core 17 for an entire week, just be patient and see what happens, you might be abit unlucky.

i will still stand by the ideal that you shouldn't be THAT fuzzed about the points though, yeah sure, it sucks ONLY getting low point units, but shouldn't a big deal out of it, it will change eventually.
