GTX 1070/1080 SLI config?

BrisoX

so, i have this new ASUS mbo strix version with 2 expansion slot with no space between them. and i have 1440p monitor. and possibly i will be upgrading to SLI.

so will the founders card be better for this SLI config or some after market cards like EVGA or MSI?

and sli 1070 now or single 1080 and sli later?

this will be my setup, so no spacing!

Slikovni rezultat za gtx founders sli

Performance wise there should be no difference, it's just FE are usually loud and hot. That could limit overclocking

If they are blower cards they will be preferred. Open air cooler are always a horrible choice.

I'd go single 1080 now because not all games support SLI, and you could still get another one later on. Also, aftermarket cards are so much better than reference cards.

but AFAIK, in SLI top card gets much hotter if they are open air coolers and i want to avoid that because i have Define Mini C case.

setup will be like in the picture. and wouldnt the top card be starving for airflow?

No because that's what they are designed to do. If you want more heat get a fancy cooler with a bunch of fans. Why do you think they them in the pic like that.

If you don't know, don't advise. Most AAA titles that actually need SLI have it enabled, and for the rest you can force it.

There are games in beta right now that support SLI...

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Yes as in why do you think they are like that in the pic. Why would nvidia put up a pic if the cards were gonna starve. All sli setups run blower style. People who know better anyway.

If you can afford it and have space in the case, so would hybrid cards (like msi seahawk) be the best choice, as they would deal with heat a lot better and reduce noise.

If not so is blower style cards the best for sli.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

Sli period they are better. Even if you have slots in between. Most peoples rigs don't even have enough airflow to support an open air cooler, escpailly with the 10 series.

Really depends on what you want. I if want to get fancy coolers and has to listen to all their fans struggle and watch your temps go up or get better temps, looks and less noise go for the fe version.

I run two Hybrid cards, in the right case they're not too loud, but finding room for all those radiators is a bit of a pain. Next time I'll go with blocks.

i totally agree with second yes!

i know that rainbow six siege doesnt scale on SLI/CFX at all! but will i get stuters with 2 GPUs with gsync monitor?

i mean i will sure benefit in games which support sli up to max 80%. some games support maybe 30-60% scaling, but okay.

games that dont scale at all, they worry me. worst case scenario, only 1 gpu will work and 1070 is good for 1440p...

Neither can you.

If you need SLI in a game with a high end card, it's there. Only games that run fine on one high end card are the one's that might not have it.

You also said a aftermarket cooler is better...

There's no way open air coolers are beating fe's in no space sli.

I would trade my 1080 for a pair f 1070's. The card isn't all that great and wasn't worth the money.

I have never played a game that doesn't supply sli. I'm sure you can google some that don't. It's real simple, look up the games you're gonna play then make the decision on what card(s) to get. You have to be smarter then the silicon and gold in some cases.

GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, all new COD, Battlefield 3+4, League of Legends - these games i play most of time for several years.

other games i only play SP and i delete them, like DOOM, tomb raider etc...

GTA V has amazing SLI scaling, you actually run into the problem of too many fps since going over 150fps causes stuttering. So you have to cap it at 144 manually. I use RivaTuner.
