Uhmmm. You know earnings reports are for things that have already happened, right?

This is current data, not future projections.

A companies fiscal year does not have to start in January. It starts whenever the company wants, as long as it's a 12 month period. Naturally it caries on from when they set it.

that makes no sense. In that case they are announcing 2016 numbers, but assuming 2017 is going to be the same.

No you dolt, "2017" is 2016, "2016" is 2015. It's really not that hard to understand. Especially if their fiscal year ends in January.

Just remember this is Nvidia numbers and dates . Intel doesn't do this and AMD doesn't, for what ever reason Nvidia dates are +1 year to the actual cos Nvidia.

except apparently this was 2016. Nvidia is just being sneaky with their numbers. They calculate profits from Jan to Jan. not Jan to dec.
