Power consumption is a good argument, regardless OP should not bother with the GTX 1060 6gb it is not a good deal either ways, either go for the RX 480 8gb or a 300 dollars or cheaper 980ti or then the GTX 1070.

 

Maxwell and Pascal both have great optimization, hell even Kepler still gets driver updates here and there, nVidia is not going to decrease driver support for Maxwell any time soon.

No that's not true I have a GTX 1070 overclocked and when I run Heaven the results tell a different story.

Now I'd like to see a single 980Ti beat that.

What about price to performance, yeah I like getting good performance, but I'm willing to go with something slower, if its price to performance is better.

Used 980ti is about $300 USD and a good 1060 is about $250. Get the 980ti. I got a 980ti Hybrid for $315 on /r/HardwareSwap

Depends on which games he likes the most. But either way, no RX480/GTX1060 will outperform a 980 Ti.

Get a 980ti if you found one for 300 dollars or less or a brand new GTX 1070 and you will be good to go.

If all you care about is Arma 3 at 1080p ultra. The 1060, gives you 70fps with everything maxed out at 1080p. Just wondering, for how much did you find the 980 Ti?

Most 1070 hover around 2050-2100 so that makes it at most not at least.

EVGA 980ti Hybrid

16GB 1866Mhz Ram

Power Limit: 120% (maximum)

Temp.Limit: 83c (Doesn't Matter. On water)

Core Clock: +90 (1444MHz stable) 

Memory Clock: +450 (3956MHz or 7912MHz effective)

Fan Speed: Custom Fan Curve 

 

Same Heaven Settings

 

Heaven Results: 

 

FPS: 101.3

Score: 2551

Min FPS: 33.3

Max FPS: 205.0

 

A 1500Mhz 980ti could beat you and this is with Pascal being even better at the absolutely ridiculous amount of tessellation that benchmark has. I got an FPS of 99 at 1430 (Downclocked to 1414 halfway through cause I'm stupid) and at 1444 got 101.3. 980ti's in actual games can be faster than even a high clocked 1070.

This thread derailed a faire bit though the question was GTX 1060 vs 980ti the 980ti eat the 1060 for breakfast in fact if you get a 980ti that can clock around 1480/1500 mhz you'll be slotting right between an overclocked GTX 1070 and a stock GTX 1080.

Ignore them. Just insecurities, they bought the new X70 and rather than enjoying games, they need to beat something. Meanwhile our X80ti is still relevant years later, them trying to beat it is proof of this.
