1060 vs 980Ti

So currently I'm at AIT (advanced individual training, I'm learning to be an IT Specialist in the military) and I was thinking about building a PC when I go back home (since I'm reserves) and I was wondering which is better, the 980Ti or the 1060? (and I'm talking about there 6gb models and after-market)

A better comparison is 980ti vs 1070, where the 1070 is better, but not by a whole lot.

980ti but i would go with the 1070 instead but 980ti is better than 1060

It's essentially the same as comparing a 1060 to a 1070.

980Ti is faster than a GTX 1070 (when both are oced to average limit). GTX 1060 is more than 20% slowee than both cards.

First I meant stock, and overclocking performance is basically a lottery so your statement may have been true in one (or multiple cases), but is very subjective.

If you don't care about power consumption, just go for the 980ti, it's more powerful than the 1060.

An overclocked 980 Ti beats a factory overclocked 1070. 

However, if you overclock the 1070, it will be faster than a 980 Ti (overclocked)

as for this one benchmark they are showing the 980 ti beating the 1070 but the 980ti is overclocked while the 1070 isn't, if you were to oc the 1070 it would beat the 980ti

1070 doesn't gain nearly as much as the 980Ti does from ocing.

also you are playing the silicon lottery for how far you can push your gpu, but with the same oc the 1070 should perform better

Actually it's been noted that their Gigabyte card doesn't OC well at all because it is already hitting 2000 Mhz out of the box. There might be 5% extra but that would only tie the 980ti. 980ti 1430+ is faster than a 1070 at 2000 both of which are EXTREMELY common overclocks.

Silicon lottery is more relevant when taking about the 980 Ti. Nvidia's 10 series, overclocks much more consistently. You should be able to achieve at least 2100MHz on a 1070....

Actually, the clock speed is around 1900 on the 1070 G1, when you haven't changed the power limit.(AFAIK)

Not really because the margin of potential OCing on the 1070 is so much smaller than in the 980ti,  if you have a great aftermarket 980ti or a Titan X you can get it to work as good as the stock GTX 1080 which is my case [:

Idk, maybe, it might be a bit faster, but I would still prefer the 1070, because of optimization and power consumption...

Nope. Theirs actually his 2000 out of the box. 

Take away that 100 mhz overclock and you would have the base model hit a bit farther than 2000. The G1 in OC mode runs at the same stock clocks at the Xtreme gaming.
