Two things

So in other words, adding an NVME SSD to your computer won't affect the GPU's PCIe lane allocation. And even if it did, it's not going to appreciably affect performance.

I have laptop MSI GE62VR, it has i7 6700hq that has 16 lanes and gtx 1060 3gb (desktop gare) GPU. I have added m.2 ssd (samsung 960 evo) and according to MSI specs it uses 4 lanes. CPU is cappable of running in 1x16, 2x8, 1x8+2x4 lanes modes according to intel site. I wonder when I added SSD I just forced it from 1x16 to 1x8+2x4 mode and probably "cut" some GPU lanes. Can it lower GPU performance?

what are you talking about? 8 lanes of pcie 3.0 is more than enough for any modern gpu.

You could sell that M.2 and get an ordinary SSD and (If you don't use the disk drive only, I assume that laptop has one) use the DVD slot to put the SSD there.

well that was my original idea, then I found out it has this PCI-e slot and its like 5x faster than regular ssd

So it will decrease the available bandwidth to/from the GPU, but the GPU will never (especially a 1060) use all 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes, so the actual performance won't change.

not it can't all test comparing the performance between 16x and 8x 3.0 were within statistical error. only 1 to 2 fps diffrence is too small to say that the pcie lanes were the cause.

Not on a 1060 it won't.

You can just literally benchmark it, do a test with the M.2 and do it without. And that will be your answer!
