Compatibility

BluJay614

Planning out my first computer build and I have someone telling me I should make sure the SSD and HDD I'm wanting to use are "compatible....so they don't die in a year". How much of an issue is this really? I'm going to be using the SSD as a boot drive, and HDD as my main storage.

Any SATA hard drives and SSD's will be "compatible" but if you are unsure about other compatibility issues, use pcpartpicker. They have a very good compatibility check.

SATA drives these days are all compatible with SATA devices, that is unless they are of ridiculous sizes (Linus, I'm looking at you with those 10 terabyte drives).

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

First time I ever heard an SSD needs to be compatible with a hard drive. Probably because it doesn't make sense.

buy a trusted brand and nothing something you find for half the normal price on ebay and will be fine, as said above, if it is a SATA device, SSD, HHD, opitcal what ever, it will all work just fine!
