Looking for a top of the line gaming laptop

Hey guys and girls!

iv been doing some of my own research and I'm struggling to come to a conclusion about what gaming laptop to buy. This laptop will last me until i can scrape up enough money to build my Desktop PC. the main reason that i want a laptop now to game on and do pretty much everything on is that,  its the only thing i have room for until i make building modifications to my room. now price is not an issue for me but i play league of legends. this is the only game that will run on this thing i call a laptop that i own currently. i want to play AAA games and new titles that are coming out soon and i want to play with the best performance i can muster. as this laptop will be used for guests when i eventually build my Desktop PC.

so any suggestions as to the best gaming laptop 2017?

Cheers,

Callum :)

Well, first question is, why is it that you can't build a desktop? It would be much better in terms of money and performance. Second, What size are you looking for or other specifics that you have?

I wouldn't call the Acer Predator 21x a gaming laptop, more a "barely movable monstruosity". Tell us your budget and the size you want.

For latest AAA titles in FHD, aim at least for a laptop with a GTX 1060 anyway.

@Miguel552 the main reason why i wont build a desktop now is that i cant fit one in the current room im in until i make building modifications at my own house, plus im always travelling alot as im currently in University and i cant really put a desktop in the accommodation im currently in. i finish my degree in the next 2 months and its a little present to myself after 3 years studying :)

@jldjul and @Miguel552 budget would be around £2000 and 17" preferably and just the max specs i could cram into a laptop. dual 1080 i think personally for a laptop is too much money but if there is one that's not to far off my budget then i'm all for it!

@deXxterlab97 Holy Balls!! that's an awesome rig but i don't think i would get it as i prefer Chiclets keys on a laptop

1080 SLI is way overkill. Damn, even 1080 is overkill for a FHD laptop, and it will add temperature problems. Stick to a 1070 you'll get way enough performance to last very long. Remember 1060 have similar perfs than 980m.

Back soon with a recommandation list

You have a lot of options on that price point. It all depends on you doing research and see what things you like. If you want 1080p with high refresh rate, or 1440p at 60Hz, or 4k. Or if you physically like one more than the other.

People say Asus support sucks, I had to send my laptop back once and it went smoothly. I guess it depends on how your case goes. But in my opinion most Support lines are bad. So do some research and then come with a short list of your top choices and then we can help you decide which one would be best or something. But we may suggest ones that you don't like and then you find out there was another you liked more after buying it and you'll get mad at us xD

@Solar 9

The things I consider mandatory at this price point:

- SSD. M.2 SSD if possible. And more SSD.

- Intel i7

- Ram: 16 GB DDR4

- GTX1060 or higher. I told you 1060 was enough, but the price difference with 1070 is not that high.

- FHD screen. Avoid 4K UHD screens unless you plan to do some heavy creative work with it.

The "mobility" line: if you move a lot, want to carry your laptop with you everyday. Keep in mind that compacity have a big downside : worse temperature management (and consenquently, noise). Consider limiting to 1060 for this range.

Asus GL502VM (test here). Never saw the grey model until now, looks awesome IMO.

MSI GS63vr (LTT video)

I was going to recommand the Razer Blade (GTX1060) but the price increased for no reason and FHD models are discontinued. I'm really loosing hope in Razer.

The "heavy power" line : if you don't want to carry your laptop everyday and just leave it in your room and move it when needed.

MSI GT62VR

Acer Predator 15 (LTT video)

Asus ROG G752VS

Gigabyte P57X (Test here)

That's a lot of choice, so I'd try doing a list of dealbreakers (like for me it would be bad I/O placement, no SD card reader, bad touchpad...) or personal preferences (look, materials...)

I'd also consider lowering the budget (1050Ti is good too) if you plan to build a desktop rig in the next 1-2 years.

@Miguel552 Had no problem with Asus either, but I didn't tried with laptops. They can't do wore than HP with my old Probook though.

nope. tons of thermal issues. also the power adapter can't provide sufficient power at max load. GSync and no MUX so shit battery life.

Fine. Same complaint though poor battery life. Otherwise fine. There will be one with a 1070 very soon (sounds like a disaster but willing to wait and see). Also get the whitebook version here without the ugly msi branding

No reason to ever get this when the MSI 16L13 exists. It's a MSI whitebook at a similar price point with the same build and chassis and same everything but with the inclusion of a socket CPU. You can see the trend here that MSI whitebooks are often times better than the actual MSI retail notebooks. Rip.

Skylake stocks are done. They sold out of the FHD model (cause the FHD is better than QHD). Kaby Lake models incoming.
