For strictly gaming the i5 would do better. If you're doing something highly threaded the i7 is better.

Thx

I would say i5, but my motto for CPUs is "Buy the best you can". IF you can afford the i7, go for it.

Such explanation, much wow!

Of course the i7 is better than an i5 but seriously, is it worth the money? I think not. Save it and buy a new CPU 2 years earlier.

I'm just going to repeat what you said to me.

Of the course the i7 is better than an i5, if you have the money it's easily the better choice.

Is that for gaming and ever with the i5 overclocked?

If you can afford to buy an i7-K while not skimping on anything else, go for the i7.

I don't want to spend that much more for marginally improved performance and I'm only planning to use it for gaming and hw

im just asking if an overclocked i5 would beat a non overclocked i7

Get the i5, then. I would probably put the saved cash into a larger SSD or better monitor like 1440@75 21:9 or something.

Yes I would say so. And even if not, you saved a lot of money what you can invest in a good cooler, more RAM or a pretty case.

Most of the people here and in the world who are deciding between an i5 and an i7 are on a budget of some sort. Otherwise they would go with a 8 core xeon whatever I don't know.

Without question an i7 is better than an i5, because of this it's also more expensive. But for his purpose, I would buy an i5.

So, as a conclusion:
for video rendering and editing, I would recommend an i7,

but for a normal to more or less enthusiast gamer I will still recommend buying an i5 and put your money on a good graphics card or like I said save it so you can buy a new generation earlier than you normally would or could.

What is wrong with you? I don't defend my purchase, I simply tell that guy that for current gen gaming, an i7 is over the top if he is on a budget (what he is when he buys a budget cooler)

Truth is you want your post to be fact, and no one else should have an opinion unless it ties in with yours.

You have made up that this person is in such a budget deficit that he NEEDS to buy the i5, and you own an i5 because you yourself bought into the idea that an i5 is all you need, i mean that's cool that is you, but you need to remain much more open here.

Do you think if i went for an i5 that it would do what i need for less? even though the i7 is superior in performance and everything else?

The i7 is the better choice period unless the budget calls for you to make the i5 a top choice, the top choice here is the i7 since the OP specifically asked about i5 and i7, not i3 and i5.

I think we basically said the same things in other words...

So, sorry for calling you a moron and have a nice day :)

You with your i7 and me with my i5, and we will both be happy at the end :P
