How many watts do i need

im thinking of getting a 

i5 6500

16 gb of ram

ASUS GeForce DUAL GTX 1050 Ti 4GB 

1tb hdd

and a ASUS Z170-A mother board

400-550W. I'd say 550W is about standard since it gives more than enough room to grow in the future.

That is a terrible calculator that uses TDP (which measures heat) to find the approximate wattage needed.

yeah its not an exact number but its good enough imo.

Get an H110 motherboard instead and use the extra money for an RX480 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB.

Agreed, get a 480 instead of a Z170 board. Although anything 450w and above would be perfectly fine. (technically anything over 300w would be fine, but pricing/a bit of headroom generally means 450w+ is a much better buy).

Well the actual components will only use like max 200 watts so...anything over 350watts will be fine

For his current built tier 4 will do just fine. no need to spend more on tier 3 psu.

But if u really value your rig and dont want to upgrade your psu in the future get tier 2 psu instead.

450W can end up being short if say, in 2-3 years, he upgrades to a xx70 GPU.

 

SeaSonic S12ii 520W is almost as cheap as the 430W. Great Tier 3 choice. I would NEVER tell someone to get a Tier 4 PSU.

Like 120W with that system. Want a good option? A Corsair CX450M or Seasonic S12 430/520W will work well.
