PS/2 Keyboard & Mouse... What !?

Hi everyone !

I don't get it... while shopping for a new Motherboard, I noticed something weird... can someone tell me WHY all the major Motherboard manufacturers are still providing "PS/2" connector(s) for keyboard & mouse, even on those "HOT" next generation Z270 / H270 based motherboards !? Aren't this interface gone since 20 years or so ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but almost all the gaming keyboards are USB, and I doubt the hardcore gamers would use a dumb USB to PS/2 adapter on the back of their PCs...

I even tried to shop for a brand new PS/2 keyboard and found very limited choices... so... there must be a reason why they still put PS/2 connectors on the latest motherboards but... honestly... I don't get it...

Regards, iBypass ;-)

its because all the real hardware geeks have an old AF keyboard that they love the shit out of that they use when building PCs lol. also it helps to disable all USB connectivity when doing hardcore LN2 overclocking

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Maybe it just costs them nothing to add the port to the motherboard, or they have it for testing purposes/knowing there will always be a keyboard that works with it.

Most hardcore overclockers still use PS/2 port in order to use an old keyboard that is %100 compatible with BIOS.

Some people prefer the response of a ps/2 keyboard or spent a lot of money on one for gaming back when they were still making them more. How long do you think a good keyboard should last 5 years 10 maybe 15 or 20?

In every techs life there is a moment where they needed an old terrible membrane keyboard and they were praising the manufacturer for including PS/2 ports.

Maybe your fancy pants new gaming keyboard doesn't even get detected in BIOS and now you're stuck with a useless machine that can only post.

(Also, I find the fact that I can use an old Model M that my school almost threw out with my i7 rig hilarious.)

yes, my K70 cant get into the BIOS of some motherboards and even my brothers gaming keyboard(membrane, USB) cant get into the BIOS of his motherboard. i have a really nice PS/2 keyboard, sure its membrane but its also the BY FAR lightest keyboard i have ever used, like its about 20 grams! its my go to for any computer building seeing as it just works while USB is always iffy when building with mid 2000s-early 2010s hardware
