Some colors look blocky mostly blacks

My display has been showing a lot of colors in movies, videos and games as a blocky mess. They appear to not be as smooth as they're supposed to be to make up a clear gradient in color. I have a BenQ GL2460HM with an FX 8300 and a GTX 1060. Main display is 1920x1080 connected with a DVI and a secondary 1366x768 connected with a DVI to HDMI connector.

This could be due to the 8 bit panel, or the compression in movies.

Are those screenshots? I can't see any obvious faults with the gradient.

I can get "blocky" gradients in the dark areas with my monitor and I'm fairly sure it's due to an 8-bit panel

I increased the gamma on my monitor and now it's only visible at some angles, I'm pretty sure it's the monitor at this point.
