Because it's full of files...?

Use windirstat to see what is taking up the space.

Also, you should always have 10% or more free space on an SSD, you might have screwed something up by only leaving 1.5GB.

Hi,

A) you may have a lot of stuff in recycle bin, did you try to clear that?

B) might just be you have too many applications/files on your drive. Do you store pictures, videos etc. on that RAID0 array or on the SSD?

speaking of RAID0, I hope for your good you back up your array frequently (e.g. weekly)...?

Run disk cleanup type it into your search bar, click cleanup system files button, this will remove any Windows.old folders you may have, which can take up a LOT of space if you have gone through multiple resets, or insider builds.

Maybe the swapfile grew? If you have other drives in the system, limit the size on the boot drive and allow it to grow onto other disks.

You don't want to do that. You always want a pagefile on your C: drive or you're risking corrupting Windows or causing issues down the line, just let Windows manage it. I have two computers that have a 120GB SSD as my C drive and I even install most of my programs (except for games) on it. Both have over 40GB of free space.

My first guess is that you have things installed to it you didn't realize were installed to it. Check your programs and apps list. Also if you download a lot make sure your downloads folder isn't full of stuff. Finally, many programs will install their cache or temp folders to the C: drive even if they are not installed on the C. Music programs like Spotify or iTunes need to be told where to put their caches and media folders which can take up a lot of space. Same with editing programs like Premiere.

Start narrowing down which folders are using up the space (don't forget to look at hidden folders as well). "Windows" should only be using 20GB or so. If "Users" is taking a ton of space then it's either your files (photos, videos, downloads, etc) or it's app data and you need to narrow down which programs are using it. If "Program Files" is using a ton then it's programs you have installed on C and you should uninstall the big ones and have them installed on your second drive instead. Just start figuring out where the bulk of the data is and what the source of the files are, then report back and we'll see what the issue is.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Download WinDirStat, run it in administrator mode, and either attach a screenshot or inspect it yourself. Also note that the System Volume Information folder on the root of C:\ contains system restore data, and can grow quite large. You can certainly disable System Restore to free up some space, but keep in mind this will remove your ability to revert back days or weeks before you installed certain programs.

Do explain in further detail, it will be news to many of us.  How exactly does relocating your page file to another drive 'risk corrupting windows'?  Do you understand what the page file is for?

I (and many others) have done this countless times in the past for systems with smaller C: partitions.  With 16GB of ram, he has very little to worry about with the OS actually entering in to a live swap state and if it does, there's no hard with it being on a secondary disk.

From what I have read: this is because the pagefile is used in the event of a crash as the memory dump which may cause issues if you move the location entirely off the C. This also (apparently) sets up a security risk since monitoring programs often pay less (or no) attention to secondary disks and if your virtual memory is targeted it can give malware easier access to the OS.

As you said, I had done this in the past when I had a system with a 32GB OS drive and ran into some issues after a few crashes (although I can't say for sure that was the exact cause, I haven't had issues since). What I do now instead is let Windows manage the pagefile on C but also allow an overflow pagefile on a second drive to do the bulk of the work.

So, it's possible that I'm wrong and there are no issues but it's just a little thing I had read about a while back and stuck with it. Not to mention having the virtual memory on the fastest drive seems advantageous and the pagefile is relatively small so it's certainly not what is causing his space issues anyway.

It's an overflow for system-committed memory or a crash dump, in the event that you do not have enough ram available.  Paging and Dump files were more important with 32-bit versions of Windows due to addressable memory limitations.  A page or dump file is purely optional and the only time there would be a concern is if you're overallocated with memory (no page file means no additional 'memory pages' to hand out); working off a pagefile is anything but enjoyable.

So, if you were running in to 'issues and crashes', assuming you didn't allocate a drive for paging file storage then you likely ran out of memory.

It would be in the OPs best interest to move the paging file off of C: to free up space, a practice that Microsoft shared before.

Yes, you should place your Adobe media cache and preview files on a secondary drive (can be found in your Premiere settings). You should only have the Adobe install files on your OS drive but all caches on another drive (ideally you would have a dedicated SSD for the cache/preview files and a third drive for your media, but not everyone can). You should also make it a habit to clear your Adobe cache whenever you are done with a project.
