So I traded my old laptop for an RC short course truck. Associated SC10. It has a Novak Edge ESC, Novak 17.5 brushless motor 4600mah 2s 100c shorty lipo, and all the goodies. It's currently set up for racing. The guy told me its around a $400 setup. So my mom gets home and I go to show her. She Hates RC stuff. Every RC I've ever had I ended up breaking. So I go to plug the battery in so I can show her how fast it is and all that. Connect one terminal, then the other, aaand POOF. ESC is cooked. My dumbass is standing there MAKING SURE that it's connected the right way as I plug in the first connector. I guess I thought the positive was the negative and plugged the shit in backwards. I need a job if this keeps up. Good lord.

you arent suposed to be able to plug it in backwards... the connector is suposed to be non reversible.

I have a deans connector that I was literally going to solder onto my ESC tomorrow.

 

I planned on soldering the bullet connectors into the battery so I wouldn't make the mistake I did. The final product wouldve looked something like this. That's part of the charging cable that's plugged into it so I'm not soldering that one.

 

You can also see on the battery that the positive and negative connections are hard to see without good lighting.

that is sketchy at best, you are lucky that those two didnt touch...

The wires got hot enough to burn my fingers and it actually de-soldered the negative wire from the ESC. I touched the wire back onto the ESC to see if it still worked and it still turns on and powers everything like it should except when I pull the throttle trigger the motor doesn't do anything.

I'm pretty sure whatever got fried is under the heatsink.

yep, well you are better off replacing the ecu than replacing the whole car.
