Upcoming Chrome Version will Aggressively Throttle Background Tabs

god I hope I can turn this shit off.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I'm on El Capitan because I never want to restart my laptop. And the last time I had a chance to (which was like October)  there were reports that "optimized storage" might turn itself back on after certain updates, and well...fuck that.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

I don't think I could comfortably swap back to Chrome from Maxthon.  Firefox is always a possibility, but, still low trust.

I don't feel comfortable using a browser developed in Beijing... privacy concerns, mainly.

F#$k timezone programming. Use UTC! (See XKCD #1883)

Ryzen 5900x, MSI 3070Ti, 2 x 1 TiB SSDs, 32 GB 3400 DDR4, Cooler Master NR200P

The Chinese'll have our data eventually.  Sadly I trust Russian, Chinese, and Norwegian companies more than I do U.S. ones.

I know how to disable it, but a few months back when I was going to update I saw a few reports of people who installed one up the Sierra patch updates and it reverted their settings. Whether they didn't change the settings properly in the first place, or accidentally changed it themselves is something that I don't know, but that's something else.

That hasn't been my experience. My Mac is as stable as it's ever been -- other than chrome eating up literally every BIT of RAM after a few weeks and forcing me to force quit it.

My mac is fine too. But a lot of people reported getting buggy OS , mostly on the new machines. Which model do you own?? How many gb of ram you have?? I used to get 100% usage with 1.5GB of swap usage. Then I reinstalled the OS, now I am using 50-60% of the ram.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Just remember that people are idiots and that it's always the ones with problems who are the loudest. I have a friend who has the non TB model and he's had no issues with it.

Late 2013 15", no dGPU, 16GB.

When I first restart the computer and open everything that's normally open, I sit at around 11GB/16GB used. But after a few weeks of never closing anything (with the same exact load) it ends up at 16GB/16GB and then Chrome freezes and I have to force quit it.

I see. Thanks for the info!

Yeah,I know. Most of the people who bought the latest machine are fine with the machine themselves.

What about multiple screens? Can't have focus on multiple screens but having multiple things opened is kinda the point.

So glad I recently switched to Vivaldi, I don't want this stuff. Even with 8GB of RAM I never use too much and most tabs don't require a lot of computer so their's no need to throttle them.

@Qub3d Thread moved to programs, apps and websites, until Tech news and reviews posting guidelines are met

While you shouldn't just copy the entire article, your quote should give the reader a summary of the article in a way that gives the key details, but also leaves room for them to read the full article on the linked website. Please use quote tags (the speech bubble at the top of the editor, under the  :)) to show that you have copied this content from another site.
