PC in a VCR housing

Sleeper PC 2016

I got this great idea of getting a decent sized vcr from goodwill and transplanting the motherboard from an old desktop into it. It would be really cool to do since one can get vcrs for next to nothing. What do you guys think? Also what else can i put a pc motherboard into besides media players?

Not a bad idea, though I prefer using these fancy, little containers known as computer cases.

true true, but if you live in a high crime area or you want to slim down a pc for easier storage, a turn of the century vcr is one way. Think of it as a slim desktop pc.

If you want to try this, you'll need to find schematics for the ATX standoffs. You'll also need to find a way to get a PSU, drives, and any coolers.

You can also just buy a HTPC case. They're inexpensive and are inconspicuous most of the time

Makes sense. But when they see your VCR plugged into a keyboard, mouse and monitor, they're going to start wondering what it actually is :P.

In terms of case size, you might want to get one of the old VCR recorders. The ones with two Tape decks. This will give you a little more room and maybe more space for cooling/a PSU.

Current Build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 // Mobo: Ryzen AM4 B350 GAMING PLUS ATX // RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz // GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 580 Gaming 8GB // SSD: Kingston A400 120GB // HDD: 3 x WD Blue 1TB // PSUCorsair 650M // Case: Corsair 450D // Monitor: LG Ultrawide 29" IPS

Plex Server:

CPU: AMD FX 8350 Black Edition // Mobo: Gigabyte - GA-78LMT-USB3 R2 Micro ATX // RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz // GPU: GeForce GTX 670 // HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB // PSU: Kolink Core Series 500W 80 Plus Certified // Case: AVP Viper Mini Tower

Other:
