i was wondering DOES nvidia have the right to x86

And cant AMD/intel license it of to them

 

And you might be wondering "Why do we need nvidia CPUs"

1. More choices

2. maybe kick-ass nvidia APUs

3. Better compatibility with SLI and nvidia GPUs

4. and other things

No. They do not. They would have to get Intel's and AMD's rights to the patents to make actually useful CPU's. In other words. It'll never happen.

No, Nvidia does not have the licenses to use the x86 ISA, nor the AMD64/x86-64 ISA from AMD. Considering Nvidia tends to be the anti-social kid on the lot, the likelihood of both AMD and Intel allowing Nvidia to license the required patents is very small.

Why use x86?

 

You can use ARM or POWER just fine.

i7 performance might happen after around 10 years of constantly developing CPUs. And by then, the 1060 will be so out of date. What you're wishing for is just impractical.

To be exact, the patent for x86 has already expired. So there's no need to license it. Basically, if you want to build a i386 or i486 CPU, you're free to do so. It's the more modern derivations of x86, namely x86-64 and SSE that are under patent.

I doubt Nvidia would be able to develop a capable x86 processor first try anyways, since they have no experience in x86 processors nor desktop processors in general. That's not to mention they don't have experience making desktop APUs either. AMD and Intel have been doing this stuff for over half a decade now whereas the only "experience" Nvidia has is arm which is completely different and has different power requirements.
