I'm upgrading my current PC and I would like feedback on my new build

jamesfindlay3

This is the build I have in mind: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KvTxVY the barebones PC is little over 1000 dollars which I don't think is too bad for a 2560x1440p rig. Obviously, the monitor peripherals and software bring that up to almost 2000 dollars but I think that is still ok for a full PC. Please tell me what you think and if I should change anything or if is ready to go. Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I think it's just fine, maybe you could get a bigger HDD for not much more money. Also, do you really need all those fans?

I don't think i'll be needing much more storage and the fans are because I wanted to replace the case fans with some much quieter ones and the case itself only comes with two anyway.

Are you 100% sure that the graphics card will fit in the case? Just something to be sure of. Apart from that it should be good for what you want it for. Since your going all out on your graphics card then I would say upgrade your processor to a i7. Oh and also check if the CPU cooler will fit inside the case.

MochPot: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200MHz DDR4, ASRock X370 Fatality K7, 8GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, 256gb Salvaged Intel Rando NVME SSD, Corsair RM750x, Corsair Carbide 275R, Windows 10 Pro

  1. The Cryorig M9i isn't sufficient for any kind of overclock
  2. The i5 will bottleneck the 1070 a little bit (in CPU intensive games)

The cpu cooler will definatly fit i checked and it's one of the only ones that does. and on pc part picker it doen't flag the card but i may look into it. Thanks!

I recommend to get a better CPU.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

No problem, don't just trust Pc parts picker, they are not always the most accurate when accounting for the length of graphics cards.

Okay, just saying the 2TB Seagate Barracuda (for example) has better price/capacity ratio, which for me is the main attribute for storage :)

Yeah i thought about that also and i don't yet know if i want to go i7 and i can always overclock a wee bit. But if i want to seriously overclock I'll probably go water cooled. Thanks!

I think an i5 is good enough for gaming, even at 1440p. However, maybe you should consider going with the Z270 chipset and Kaby Lake since the pricing is pretty much identical, @jamesfindlay3

Or, depending on how quickly do you need a new PC, wait for Zen

I would get an i7 and a GTX 1060 6GB.... (If i couldn't stretch my budget a bit more) i5s are starting to become a bottleneck for many GPUs and when you will want to upgrade to a newer GPU, you will have to upgrade your CPU as well....

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

Mind the PSU though, you might want to go with a 650W unit for an X99 build.
