Advantages of New 212 PRO?

So, what are the advantages of the 212 PRO over the EVO? Anyone know? Also, is the double fan worth it?

I've never heard of the 212 Pro. Can you provide a link to the product?

No such cooler exists from Cooler Master. Maybe OP means the 212X? It's only a marginal improvement and gets beat out by the competition

I was just shopping for another 212 the other day. It's cheap, and matches another one I'm already using on a dual CPU system. I debated the X over the Evo, but went against it when I saw the fan spec. The Evo fan is 1600rpm and the X fan is 2000rpm. As far as I'm concerned, faster = noisier. There was no cost difference between the two so I went Evo anyway.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Productivity system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, 64GB ram (mixed), RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, random 1080p + 720p displays.
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

The 212x is an update to the Evo and has a better fan but that's the only difference. It performs 1-2 degrees better under load. If they're the same price, go with the 212x.

Adding a second fan doesn't make a big difference.

I think I get it now. So essentially only get it if you have a FX-9590 overclocked to 5Ghz.

No..? Where are you getting that idea?

The 212x isn't that different from the 212 Evo and adding a second fan doesn't make a big difference either.

There are physical differences, regardless if they make a difference in performance. Look at the area around the heatpipes on the heatsink area, the X has extra cuts not present on the Evo.

In my case, since I'm intending on using it on a dual CPU system with an existing Evo, I thought another Evo would look better next to it.

The Fx-9590 runs very hot. That's why I said it. Really hot chips where a single degree can actually matter might be worth it.

A single degree is generally a small difference in any case.

Ah, so there is. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

Also the "V" shape holes direct the air in other ways as well.

Sure, they do but it doesn't make the 212x perform that much better than the 212 Evo anyway.

It could've been just for the 'x' look since they do try to put some sort of aesthetic on the cooler.

Well, I'm glad they did what they could to refresh it after a couple of years. I hope that when the 212 EVO gets retired and the X gets a price cut we'll see another upgrade in a couple of years from this.

212X isn't even new. It was only available in selected regions, until they have finally decided to release to everyone.  Back when I did my upgrade to the X99, I wanted that 212X. Can't buy it in the US, only for Asian or European markets during that time or something and that was about 2 years ago in 2014. 212 X is about the same age as the 212 Evo.

They're not the same age. The 212 Evo came out in 2011 and the 212x was first announced in 2013. It was released to the US market just last year.

I messed up on the date, but yeah, 212 Evo is older than the 212X.

I also looked at that while deciding between the X and Evo. As far as I can tell, the Led looks the same as the Evo, but the fan has red LEDs. It cost slightly more so I passed on it.

Yep, LED is what probably drive up the cost.

LED is yet another variation they sell. I can't be sure from the pics but it looks like it is based off the Evo. They probably just changed the fan on it.

The LED version is worse than the 212 Evo with the heatpipes spread farther across. http://www.kitguru.net/components/cooling/dominic-moass/cooler-master-hyper-212-led-review/3/
