Idk my complete specs but I have some intel i3 dual core chipset running 3.70 Ghz, msi z97 gaming 3 mobo, 2x4 gb huperx fury ram...

I need a gpu and I don't know what to get I have like a $100-$200 budget (meh). My friend offered a 980 ti for $230.

It needs to be capable of streaming.

I build this pc on a budget and yet to upgrade plus don't have a job so $200 is like tops...

Here are the recommended specifications for a PC that is gaming/streaming or simply a streaming PC, or if you simply want to upgrade a part.

Each section will go a little bit into detail about why each component is important.

CPU: You will want to go with the best CPU you can. Ideally that is where most of your PC build budget is spent. Due to how streaming works, the CPU is the most important part.

General recommendations for CPU's:

  • Any of the following or newer Intel Core i7 CPU's, with better ones in descending order.
  • Core i7 2600k
  • Core i7 3770k
  • Core i7 4770k
  • Core i7 4790k
  • Core i7 5820k
  • Core i7 5930k
  • Core i7 5960x

AMD CPU's are not recommended for streaming as they have very low IPC(Instructions-per-clock) performance. A top-of-the-line AMD 8350 CPU will perform as well or maybe worse as a i7 2600k, a 4 year old Intel CPU.

Ram: Ram is not very important when streaming. Typically, when using a program like OBS, no more than 500MB will be used. Of course, this may very depending on the amount of source, plugins etc.

General recommendation for ram:

  • 8GB DDR3 or higher

GPU: The GPU is the next most essential part of streaming. Popular programs like OBS, Xsplit and others perform actions on the GPU, like compositing, which is when the game video, webcam video, overlays, etc are all mixed into one picture, and scaling, which when your stream is converted from 1080p to 720p. Other actions include anti-alising, which can be applied after scaling to increase the quality, and other effects.

General recommendation for GPU:

  • Nvidia - Any GTX 650 series or higher (700, 900)
  • AMD - Any Radeon 6850 series or higher (7000, R7, R9)

Thats pretty much it. Other parts like the case, power supply, and hard drive is up to you, as they do not make a huge difference. If you will be doing lots of recordings and/or recording your streams, a 2TB or 4TB HDD would be beneficial to your build.

Is he talking about a gtx 970 or a 980ti? A gtx 970ti doesn't exist but if he was talking about selling you a 980ti for 230 on the other hand it would be very hard for me to not take him up on that offer.

First off, That processor being only 2 cores and hyperthreaded will likely struggle when streaming and playing a game (as mine struggles a whole lot (Especially in BF1))

For $200 You're able to buy the GTX 1060 3GB, If you can stretch that ~$20 you can get a RX 480 4GB, but personally as a team Green guy I'll recommend the 1060 for it's Shadowplay Streaming and Recording software

There's a 970ti???? Or did you mean 980ti? IF it's a 980ti I'd grab that and if it's a 970 try to smuggle him down ~$15-$30

Spoiler

[CPU] - Intel Core i5-4590

[Motherboard] - MSI B85-G43 GAMING

[RAM] - Kingston HyperX Beast (2x4GB) 1866Mhz... CPU only supports 1600Mhz

[SSD] - A-Data SP600 128GB SSD

[HDD]- 1Tb Seagate Barracuda

[GPU] - EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SSC

[Case] - Corsair SPEC-03 White

[PSU] - Rosewill 450W 80+Bronze
