Did we actually learn anything substantial about Vega/Ryzen from CES?

Guest

I was expecting some more concrete info on the new products, but I feel like we hardly know more than we already did?

Did I miss some major information release? I don't think I did..

well we learned that vega :

1- at the minimum performance is higher than GTX1080

2- the GPU as 16GB of HBM2 memory

3- the IPC of the GPU is higher, and more efficient NCUs utilization

4- multiple new techs that help boost performance and power draw

5- the use of virtual memory to increase Vram limit, in apps super hungry.

and Ryzen we learned that :

1- we wont get special editions to overclock them, since they will be all unlocked.

4670k. and yes, I run GTA at Ultra 1080p 100 fps.

My favourite game, CSGO, runs at ultra 4k 200+ FPS. Ryzen (if its good) is gonna be my upgrade.

idk

CSGO really isn't that demanding on the GPU. I'm fairly sure something like an RX 480 could pull very similar results in CSGO at 4K.

at low res its cpu bound, but at 4k very gpu bound. my 770 achieved 100 fps or so in the same conditions.

idk

I think we learned a fair bit about vega. We didn't learn much about Ryzen.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

im hopeful the itx boards wont be half-assed

a lot of people have been focused on the new flagship CPU, im positive they will have cpu's around $200 that will run well on mainstream boards as well as ITX,

doubtful theyre going to have 125w TDP again

Yeah, fair enough. Does take a stronger GPU to drive CSGO at 4K, and I won't lie, but I'd have no trouble saying that an RX 480 could tackle it at a similar performance level.

The fans did not spin up fast. So it must be hot.

That was on Vulkan though.. was it not?

not sure how good of a representation running Ryzen + Vega on Vulkan is in comparison. Choosing ideal circumstances without direct comparison.

Hard to say. It was only using a single 8 pin, so maybe it's just not that power hungry/hot.
