So my Xbox 360 just crashed on me. I have the older model 360, not the 360 Slim.

Basicly what happened, I was playing Tekken. The game froze, and all a sudden the bottom half of my screen was cut of with what looks like a multi color checker board with all the colors you can imagine. The top half that was frozen, still displayed Tekken. My Xbox 360 then just went into a black display on the TV, and on my Xbox, there is now a constant red light (Which should be a green light).

Now, my AC Adapter is showing a Green light, so the power supply is working fine. But when I switch my Xbox on, it starts up with a Red Light, the fans of the Xbox comes on, but the Xbox is basicly dead otherwise. With no display or sound on the TV, can not open my DVD Rom and it does not pick up my controllers??

I also tried removing the HDD from the side, and start the console up without the HDD, and I still get a red light and no display or sound on TV??

I also tried starting the console up without the HDMI cable, and even with only the Power Supply connected, it starts up with a red light and obviously no display or sound on TV??

Any idea on what it could be or how to troubleshoot it??

You seem to have encountered the old 360 red ring of death (I take it the red light is around the power button). Clean and repaste the heatsinks might help, but it's always a good idea to try some more testing before tearing it down.

I also can't remember how to reset the error so they reboot again, but I'm sure someone where knows or you can search it out on you tube or something.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

The red light is the error...

Unplug it and leave it for a few hours to cool, then plug it in and try again. If it works you've got the common xbox360 cooling problems, if not something else is wrong with it.

Tried this. Left the Xbox for 1 whole day before plugging it back in again. Same issue.

It's unofficially called the "red ring of death", pretty common problem with the first generation of Xbox 360.

Best thing to do is find another one, they shouldn't be expensive (around here they're between $50-$75 CAD).
