Do you replace PSU when its old, or wait for it to die?

i bought my current PSU september 2008, so its over 8 years old at this point. Should i be concerned about it failing and taking other hardware with it? Or just keep using it?

It's definitely your call. Any good unit, I would use until it dies, but any unit that's suspect at all I would ditch after 5 years if it still worked.

 

Keep in mind a PSU ages faster the more you load it (a conjecture, no proof), so if you have an old PSU that you want to replace, you can still shove it into a HTPC or similar to get the most out of it.

You're good.

 

A high-quality PSU like the HX will die slowly rather than suddenly. If you start noticing that your system BSODs upon booting to the desktop but works fine when you remove GPUs/HDDs then you're gonna need a new PSU rather quick. The HX will last you years to come however.

if how close to the maximum effects longevity, i've never even had 2 videocards in here either, probably never broke 650W
