Using multiple graphics cards to have more display outputs

oh, ok so I guess I won't bother with testing that.

your best bet is looking for a used GT710 if you want a still recent GPU to run multi monitors

I am currently using a GTX 950 and I have maxed out the display outputs on it but would like to connect more monitors to my PC. A while ago I tried adding a GT 220 that I had lying around just to use for more display outputs but the second card didn't work properly and caused driver issues. I know that this should work because I used to have that GT 220 running alongside a 9400 GT and those worked fine together but now that I have a GTX 950 my older cards won't work alongside it, I also might be able to obtain a cheap, passively cooled Quadro card to test along-side my 950 so I was wondering if I should try that or if there is some way of getting my GT 220 to work.

most likely it more of a driver issue

nVidia drivers support for older GPU are long gone and the GT220 is now considered a legacy product

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

One question. My 980 TI + my motherboard have enough inputs to atleast hold 4-5 monitors. How many monitors do you have/want?

CPU - i7-4790k

GPU - MSI 980 Ti

Mobo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Memory - 32 GB DDR3

Storage - 3.4 TB

I want to connect 4 monitors, my 950 does have 4 outputs but unfortunately one of the outputs is dead so I can only use 3.

I'm sure that it is a driver issue but the weird thing is that when I had two legacy GPU's running together they worked just fine but that same legacy GPU wont work alongside a newer card.

the GTX950 is using a more recent driver

but the GT220 and 9400GT are quite similar in terms of generation

sadly you cant just use nVidia drivers and expect all their Geforce cards to work.

Do you think switching to a cheap quadro card would work, because I might be able to get ahold of an old, passively cooled quadro card and I was wondering if I should test that out.

what is the model of the GPU?

if it too old it also out of the question

What about your motherboard, it should have atleast one type of display option?

CPU - i7-4790k

GPU - MSI 980 Ti

Mobo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Memory - 32 GB DDR3

Storage - 3.4 TB

I'm not sure of the exact model, all I know is that it only has 8 CUDA cores and 2 displayport outputs.

Unfortunately my motherboard doesn't have any built in display outputs.

found it FX370

that GPU is DX10

the driver will be outdated as well and nVidia has dropped support with the recent drivers

I was thinking about that, I might also just save up and get a GTX 1060 instead.

That can't be right. What if you had integrated graphics with no gpu. Honestly I recommend you check again on that one. Anyways what's your motherboard?

Mobo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5

I'm actually using a DELL workstation board with a six core Xeon processor, I just checked and there are no display outputs on the board. (If your wondering what chipset it is its X58).

http://prntscr.com/drp0mq It it like this, because this one does have display outputs, if not can you send me a picture of your motherboard?

That's a dell Precision T5500 board but I'm using a dell precision T3500 which looks like this

http://prntscr.com/drv07a Display output right there

-edit- That's known as VGA, also tell me, can you check and see if your VGA output has pins on it? Because if so then you are going to want a cable that doesn't have pins on it, something looking like this http://prntscr.com/drv1eq

CPU - i7-4790k

GPU - MSI 980 Ti

Mobo - MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Memory - 32 GB DDR3

Storage - 3.4 TB
