Portable HDD Problem?

I have a 750gb portable hdd that i use for storing photos and videos off my devices. When i have the drive plugged in, and i touch it ever so slightly it makes this loud whirring down sound and starts spinning again almost instantly. Is this just me being an idiot and touching it? Or could my drive be damaged?

        Specs!

 

CPU: A AMD A10 APU

HDD: like, 1 terabyte. 

RAM: 2x4 gig sticks of kingston DDR3

GPU: heheh- the amd A10 APU with radeon graphics oh wow

PSU: What ever is inside this thing

MOBO: same thing as the psu

is the HDD showing up in Windows Explorer?

 

have you tried changing the USB cable?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Well, the drive works and when it spins up windows says the device malfuntioned and i have to unplug and replug it in to get it working. I'm going to go find a usb cable for this drive to test.

I think the drive is being overly protective and spinning itself down to protect itself. I have heard of drives doing this, but I've never experienced a drive doing this in person.
