Either XP or Linux...not worth it going with something else honestly.

XP is horribly outdated, not to mention the plethora of backdoors still in there that have never been patched around. Did I mention it's horribly outdated?

The best bet is running a Linux distribution, with Ubuntu being the easiest to get around in and the most user-friendly.

Windows 2000.

I'd say bail on windows and get a distribution of Linux like Ubuntu or Elementary OS

I like Computer Stuffs. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it in again? Automation Expert (Bots, scripts, etc)! Add me on Xbox Live: JollyPlanet449 And on Steam!: Baxtmann Wanshow.tips is a cool place too

Linux probably is your best bet, but there are still options to try if you really need/want to run Windows. If you can get your hands on a copy of Windows Vista Starter or 7 Starter editions, they run great on older/weak machines. Obviously both would be a little bit more resource demanding than XP, but definitely something to consider looking in to. In your case, I personally would just install each OS I'm considering and give each a try and pick my favorite.

I said XP just because he asked which version of Windows he should install and my reason for saying XP was that it will run quite well on that also outdated hardware compared to any newer version.

That's why I also mentioned Linux although I haven't recommended any particular distro.
