What should I upgrade

Hey guys, so I'm wondering whether I should upgrade my cpu or gpu. I get mediocre fps in games, enough where I decide I want to buy something new.

I have an fx 4300 quad core clocked at 3.80 GHz and a GTX 760. I would prefer if it were a gpu, because they're much less scary to install than a cpu. I've never installed a cpu. I have $370 CAD. What i've been looking at is the EVGA GTX 950 SC. I've no idea what cpu to get. If it matters, I have a gigabyte ga-78lmt-s2 motherboard. Cheers.

Probably both?

I don't know much about that CPU, but the GTX 760 is getting old. Depending on which games you play it might still be sufficient. But if you want to play AAA games on the highest settings, you should upgrade to a GTX 1060 or RX 480 for 1080p gaming.

Yeah as the poster above mentioned, the 950 is not an upgrade, it is probably slower than the 760. The 960 and 760 and 1050 are very similar in performance. Get a 1060 or 480 with that budget,

For the CPU I recommend you look for an Intel Core i5 6400, 6500, 6600 or 6600K and get either a H110 or B150 motherboard for the locked CPU'S and a Z170 motherboard for the unlocked 'K' (overclockable) CPU. For the GPU I recommend you look for a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 470 4GB.

I like AMD, but the FX is a dead end, your board doesnt look like its VRM would safely fit an FX 83xx, and the IPC of FX is not good. I would save for a i5 CPU/MOBO.

I personally upgraded from an FX 4300 to an i3-2100 and I was able to perceive a small jump in performance.

If you're on a budget, give us a number. We could come up with a mobo/CPU that could still usee your DDR3 RAM and be very capable. OR, you could just get a GPU now and move into a new PC down the road.

Should I get the 1060 6GB for now and later get a whole new computer, and put the 1060 in it? I usually play games like dayz.

Yes also consider an RX 470 4GB as both cards perform around the same.

I also truly really recommend upgrading that old and slow-as-balls FX chip in there.

Ryzen is on the horizon, I'd go with that for a budget build. That would mean getting new RAM, mobo and CPU though, but it's so worth it with that RX470.

Ye ole' train

Definitely go for the card, you can swap that into your next system.

Your CPU isn't the greatest though. Try and find a used i5/Xeon.

I'd upgrade the CPU first, the FX 4300 is a bottleneck for a GTX 1060/ RX 480, my FX 8350 at 4.8GHz was, so yours could only be worse, get an i5 and a Z170 or if you don't plan to overclock an H170, or wait for Ryzen.

You can still do something with the 760 and in the meanwhile I'd get a good CPU; a new GPU with the FX 4300 is like a runner with a broken leg (just an example, take it for what it is), a new CPU with the 760 is like a normal person with both legs working, and I prefer that case.

I say that because I know the frustration of having a video card that can't express all its power, well... at least is a thing that annoys me xD

Some Z170/H170 motherboards support DDR3, so you could buy one of those

Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Z

PERIPHERALS:
