Should I buy this server as a base for a gaming pc?

Hey guys,

I know I'm new here and obviously no one knows me but I need some help: I was watching a YouTube video about how to buy a cheap but powerful gaming pc when I saw a comment suggesting people to use the Dell Precision T3500 as a base. I found one (second hand obviously) for 160 euros, with these specs:

  • Quad Core Xeon E3570 3,2GHz
  • 12GB Memory DDR3
  • 320GB HD
  • DVD+/-RW
  • nVidia Quadro FX 4800
  • Onboard Sound
  • Onboard Gigabit LAN
  • 8x USB2.0 / 1x eSATA
  • 1x serial, 1x parallel
  • 2x PCI
  • 2x PCIe x16 / 2x PCIe x4

In my eyes this doesn't look bad for 160 euros but I'm a bit worried about the motherboard, does is support newer graphics cards for gaming (without sacrificing performance), and how is the CPU for gaming. I think I have to upgrade the GPU but is that enough to make a gaming "pc" of it?

I would love to hear some advice and whether to buy it or not.

edit: also I'm not sure this is the right board, sorry if it isn't!

It's Nehalem so it's a few generations behind.  Depends on what you have now and what your upgrade goals are?

yes, this is a pretty good buy tbh. the CPU is pretty good even today, its not going to be a gaming beast but it will play anyhing at 1080p high with a decent GPU

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
