Using an old modem? is it risky?

stuck stock heatsink

does old modems have a security risk? or stability problems or something else?

is there any reason not to use them?

this is what i have: p9NILBQ.png

 

has a broadcom chipset, looks fine and its working. can i safely use this? (it doesnt have any firmware update)

What do you plan to use it for exactly and is it a pure modem or a modem/router combo?

If you are going to try and connect to your ISP and it's a really old modem they might not allow it on their network or if they do it could have really out of date firmware which would pose security risks.

i recommend to use it only as a modem,and use a modern router for connectivity.

says combo... i will use it for my secondary connection, as a modem.

If your ISP supports the modem and has updated firmware for the device then you can use it but I would be careful and put something good behind it with a decent firewall.
