Oh my bad ... It's GTX 780 in SLI not GTX 780 Ti.

GTX 780 is 30% behind R9 Fury

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-R9-Fury-vs-Nvidia-GTX-780/3509vs2164

And I also saw that you were mistaken about the price 165$ for RX 480 xD

R9 Fury is a winner here. It does have best performance out of all those cards that you mentioned. GTX 780 SLI would perform a bit better in SOME games, but would also cause problems in other games. So if you ask me, R9 Fury is your best bet, even if I'm not AMD fan and I prefer Nvidia.

Hello. So I currently have an asus strictly r9 285 running alongside a 4690k and 12gb of ddr3. I recently got the game GTA v and quickly realized that unlike in bf4 I cannot run it at near high settings while getting 60+fps. I'd like to stay at around the $200 mark however I can stretch to about $250ish and I'm not brand particular. So far I've found a GTX 780 ti classified edition for $200, two GTX 780s in SLI with a hard bridge for $200, an asus strix r9 390 for $130(I'm assuming 4gb since product page doesn't specify), saphire nitro r9 fury for $260, or even the new msi gaming Rx 480 8gb for $165. I could also try to find another 285 or 380 and crossfire but I feel like that's not very cost effective. If I get one of the others I would be selling my 285 for around $100. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance! :)

I'd personally get the RX480.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Objectively the Fury is the best GPU out of the bunch. However it requires a beefy PSU (600+ watts if the PSU is very good, 700+ if not) with 2 8-pin PCIe connectors, and has a TDP of ~275W. If this is a concern to you, choose the RX 480.

The Strix 390 is notorious for its terribad cooler, while the limited VRAM pool on both the 780 and 780 TI will be a major detriment sooner rather than later.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Performance wise, R9 fury is winner here.

But GTX 780 Ti is just 10% lower, and if you put 2 of those cards, you get better overall performance. But it would be SLI, so taking a lot of power, producing a ton of heat and also kinda buggy.

RX 480 for that price is pretty good deal also.

And I'm pretty sure R9 390 is 8GB version.

So I would be concidering buying RX 480 or R9 fury. Fury is better by like 15%, but it does cost almost 40% less. Not to mention that RX 480 is more recent card and ussing less power.

PSU isn't an issue as I'm running 700w from thermal take but I was leaning towards the fury. Would 3gb in SLI limit me at 1080 though or in ultra wide fhd?

Depends on the games and what settings you expect to run them at.

Bear in mind that SLI does not double your VRAM pool, as the memory is mirrored between the cards to store each half of the frame.

That's what I was worried about with SLI. But it'd be between two plain reference 780s. But I'm not too worried about power consumption.

Yeah I know id only have 3gb total until dx12 does its magical stuff between GPUs that they teased very briefly. But how do you like your fury considering its the same one I'd be getting? Also the most intensive game would be GTA v at hopefully near max at either 1080p or ultra wide fhd 2560x1080.

I like it very much. I wasn't in a position to purchase a 1070 or 1080 this year, due to my status as a full-time student with a min wage job. So I went with the Fury.

Only complaint I've had is the 4 GB of VRAM at my resolution. It's not an issue in most games, but you have to be cognizant of it.

Also keep in mind that DX12 does not guarantee the VRAM pool will be increased. Developers have to code rendering paths for DX12 games now, instead of letting the driver do the heavy lifting. Multi-GPU is becoming even more of a niche market than it used to be, so there's less incentive to create proper rendering paths for multi-GPU configurations.

The R9 Fury Nitro runs circles the GTX780

The GTX780ti deal is good but nVidia drivers pretty much stopped any improvements for the older Kepler GPUs.

So the GTX780 will take the hit as well

The RX480 and Fury are DX12 supported GPUs so you are pretty safe to go for either two

but my money is on the Fury which is faster than the RX480 for almost the same price

Awesome but besides GTA I doubt 4gb would limit me since I would be running a fairly low resolution for everything else. And a bit off topic, do you prefer 21:9 or 16:9? I really like the 21:9 form factor but I could get a regular panel  @144hz so idk what to do there either.

Yeah I didn't know how much drivers would affect anything except SLI since LTT recently did a pretty good job with trying drivers in games??

I don't play competitive FPS games seriously anymore. I'm a casual. So for me, 144hz is a non-factor. I also strongly dislike MOBAs, which also benefit from a very high refresh rate.

I will say that by going with 21:9, I am confident I can never see myself returning to 16:9 for gaming anytime soon. The added immersion and field of view is incredible.

Also for GTA, cut down on the MSAA and you'll be fine.

you can watch this video on the 780Ti revisited

the GPU takes a huge hit and you can clearly see the RX480 8GB beating the 780Ti in most games

the 780Ti may still be good for 1080P High settings but 1440P see the 780Ti struggle with the 3GB VRAM limit.

The Fury isnt shown here but you get the idea the Fury will be 20% faster than the RX480 in all games.

Awesome? I'm nowhere near good enough anymore to where I feel that 144hz would benefit me. You don't have any issues with IPS motion blur though? I can't say I've ever had an issue but idk I was also looking at the um67 or the 58
