Ryzen AMD cpu cost speculation

the one that's competing with 6900k is expected to be 300 to 400 dollar. i am really excited to see the 8 core monster performance.

I think the 6700k equal one will be less than the 6700k, so around 200-250 usd, because of the core clocks seen from some people and the 8 cores

If Ryzen really does perform as well as a 6900k, I'd expect it to only be a couple 100 less than the 6900k's cost.

I agree. This is the worst outcome, but also the most realistic. People seem to be expecting a massive upset from AMD, but beyond providing somewhat better value, AMD does not benefit from slashing prices on their new CPUs. If they're better value than Intel, they've already drawn eyes away from the 6900k. They don't need to sell the eight-core sixteen-thread CPU at half the price, as some are speculating.

 

I hope I'm wrong about this, but at the end of the day, AMD is also a company. Business is not philanthropic.

it would be nice to see them at half the price of Intels, but they need to earn back the money from the time and research put into making and designing Zen, which is why I'm doubtful it'll be a huge reduction compared to Intel prices.

Yeah AMD have always been cheaper, but the reason was that their processor were no-where near Intels performance, now that they're "equal" performance from what we've seen, the prices should be expected to be pretty much equal.

Hopefully the top of the line would be around 400~500. Then the 6-core at 300 and quad at 200~300

People use the example of the R9 290 and 290x, which beat the 780 at a fraction of the price, and stood up to the original Titan at a quarter. However, AMDs marketing has done a royal job of butchering AMD's advantages. It's been bad enough for me to suspect sabotage.

I don't know where you're getting your numbers from... but the highest end model will be selling for $500 USD... there was a Chinese retailer that leaked their spreadsheet for inventory, it had the price listed at ~$520 USD after the currency conversion.

i think it will go like this:

8 core/16 thread: 600$

6 core/ 12 threads 380$

4 core/ 8 threads 300$

The rumours seem to agree for the most part that it will be $500USD for the highest end part, not a bad saving over the $1100USD 6900k.

Even though I appreciate 8-core CPUs a Ryzen chip would need to beat my Devils Canyon i7-4790K @ 4.8GHz in gaming. Considering I already have 32GB DDR3 RAM and a Samsung SSD 950 Pro SSD it's hard to imagine there will be a 4-core CPU better than this by a spectacular price point. Games don't appreciate 8-cores yet. Learned it the hard way with my i7-3930K OCd to 4GHz. In my opinion Ryzen is only interesting fpr competition. Maybe they have something better than i5 CPUs from intel at the same price point.
