Hello guys, I need some help over here. I'm looking for a decent laptop around $1500 for college. All I need is a good battery life and being able to handle AutoCAD and other 3D software. Size wise, I'm fine with 13". I'm current eyeing the latest Razer Blade Stealth, HP Envy 13 and XPS 13. I think you can see my pattern here which is lightweight and portable but problem is they don't have dedicated graphics. Any suggestions?

You want a quad core CPU and you want a laptop that has a good cooling system and since you want a laptop that is build well, because you are a student. (which removes all Razer and Gigabyte stoves)

A XPS 15 or a T460p seems like two good bets, the T460p is better build, but the XPS 15 has a better GPU

How bad is Razer's quality? One more question, is it worth it if I pair the laptop with external GPU in the future?

very very bad, it is a shit show. I think it is on NBR where the razer sub forum basically has this long thread that just goes like this "oh what is happening here? Okay what the actual fuck is going on with this laptop, welp it is faulty and thermal throttles like no tomorrow" even on razers own forum people post a lot about problems.

eGPU solutions are pretty much shit, you loose 20'ish% performance and that is just with TB3, if your CPU isn't very powerful then look forward to even less performance.

No. That is just those company trying to repack stuff and sell you for profit...... Not worth it at all.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

i can answer this xps 15 is a really good long term solution. xps 13 would also do the same, if you want to save money get the xps 13, razerblade stealth had poor support.

How long you think the XPS 15 will last? 5 years?

Since Dell have updated Inspiron 15 7000 gaming and the most spec'ed out configuration is under 1500, should I buy it?

well you could get a clevo laptop with a 1060 for that price. It would be 1080p and not have a 512gb NVMe SSD, but the GPU would go from 1050ti to 1060

I can't tell you what a good one would be, but I can tell you one that you should stay away from: ASUS ROG Series Laptops. That's what I decided to use (I had a way more limited budget than you do) and while the specs are more than capable of doing what I need them to do, the battery life is atrocious. It might last an hour and a half doing CAD work.
