"Rumor: Moto G will feature 4.7-inch display, Snapdragon S4 Pro, and will be free with contract"

While most of our attention is focused on Google, the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat — Motorola seems to have some big things in store for us in the near future as well. Shortly after the announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat, Motorola started teasing about it’s plans for KitKat. Now@evleaks has also taken to twitter to reveal new information about the so-called Moto G.

We already have heard reports that the Moto G will be a cheaper version of the Moto X, but up until now it has been rumored that the device will feature a 4.5-inch display and the same x8 computing platform as the Moto X.

According to @evleaks, the Motorola Moto G actually has quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro, a 720p 4.7-inch display, an 8MP camera, 8 or 16GB configurations and an LG-made 1,950 mAh battery. Furthermore, the device is said to be free with contract.

It’s important to note that this information was received by @evleaks “via a tip”, meaning that speculation is absolutely advised. If it is true, this thing sounds a heck of a lot like a cross between the existing Moto X and the LG Nexus 4. The leak doesn’t suggest how much RAM the handset will have, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see just anywhere from 512 to just 1GB of RAM.

After all, Android 4.4 KitKat is said to be optimized for such low amounts of RAM, so why not cut some extra costs while also showing off how good KitKat really is with low-end hardware? Again, that’s just speculation on our part.

What do you think, if Motorola can deliver a handset with solid mid-range performance while offering a price tag of under $250 outright, would you be interested or not?

Quick rumored spec run-down:

-Snapdragon S4 @1.5GHz

-512MB - 1GB of RAM

-4.7 inch 720p display

-8GB of 16GB of storage

-1950mAh battery

-8MP camera

The rumored Moto G will be FREE with a contract and if you want to buy the phone without a contract, it may cost you around $250, which isn't too bad. So all in all, for a phone that cheap off contract, and free with contract, it doesn't seem all too bad. That battery though...that battery makes me cringe.

better of with a nexus 4... or almost any phone as 75% of them are free with contract including s3s and maybe s4s (with some specials).

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

Wow, Google and Motorola is really hitting the lower price market harder than anyone else. Looks like they realize that the money is on the lower price market where anyone could afford to buy a cheap and awesome phone. Hope they sell this well. Good luck Google and Motorola.

Moto G is going to be a entry-level smartphone, so probably cheaper.

Specs so far

  • Android 4.3 jelly bean
  • 1.3 Megapixel front camera
  • 1.2ghz
  • 8gb of storage
  • 1280 by 720
  • 720p videos

Motorola may have already spoiled the Moto G launch, but it didn't revealeverythingGSMArena has posted a leaked Phones4U promo card that gives a better impression of the Moto X's budget sibling. The Moto G will reportedly be just a bit smaller, at 4.5 inches, and there's no mention of hands-free voice commands or other Moto X party tricks. The Android 4.3 device would likewise step down to a slower (if quad-core) 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera and 8GB storage. However, it would be exceptionally cheap -- at £135 ($215) off-contract, the Moto G could be a champ among entry level devices. The promo card's holiday theme suggests that the starter handset could be available in the UK before the end of the year, although we wouldn't plan our gift shopping around the leak.

Would have liked for it to run 4.4 as kitkat is a firmware which optimizes entry level device performance. But the price seems really appealing.
