Cutting costs

Jeraico

My build right now is this:

 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dLRNxY

I would be a bit fine with its price, but I've also got to add in the cost of thermal paste and the Windows 7 key, and I would like to keep it around 1250 or so, just definetly not above 1300, are there any parts I can cut down on without too big a loss?

You're not getting a K CPU but you're buying a cooler? what? either get a K series or drop the cooler and use stock

Change the case maybe find some alternative case that you like with a lower price? and change the motherboard too since you're only getting a non k cpu getting a z170 wouldn't be much of use maybe get something like a h170 and b150 board there are much cheaper options there.

Just checking you know thats a non locked chip? not multiplier overclock able.

Check the deepcool website, should have thermal paste included or pre applied, you wont need to buy it.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

I was told specifically I don't need a k processor, and what is stock?

I don't expect to be over clocking my cpu, so I don't exactly need that

Stock meaning the stock cooler the processor comes with, the K series does not include a cooler in skylake. example, i5 6600, you get a cooler. i5 6600k, no cooler.

a cpu can always run hot and a stock cooler is IMO never a good idea

Is that going to affect how it runs?

The cpu you picked is a tray (no cooler or retail packaging). Swap it for a retail one, drop the cpu cooler and grab a h or b series motherboard thats a little cheaper.

not much ... a tiny bit eventually because the gpu has to wait for the cpu to render things... its not dramatic :)

I'm not looking to change my entire list, and I'm going for Windows 7 off kinguin

You were asking for help. This system is better than yours. It has an overclockable i7, m.2 ssd, and a 1070. MUCH better value,  which you are needing help with.

Computers r fun

I like this list, though I think I could lower it even a bit more by using this

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DFgPxr/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz750120bw

I plan on using the SSD for my operating system, so I don't need that much storage

the xeon is an i7 6700, which will perform better than an i5 even after overclocking with much lower stuttering and fps drops.

i'd spend $5 more for the PNY cs1311 for the 750 evo's price, not a good value imo. you can get a cheaper motherboard to cut costs closer to $1200.
