But wouldn't having less memory eating settings (such as MSAA) lowered or disabled help in any way? Or would that just mean then GPU then is running at its full potential due to the VRAM being the limiting factor?

Texture resolution, and screen resolutions eat the most Vram.

Sure, you can tailor your settings to accommodate whatever VRAM your card has. But as time goes by, those compromises are going to get increasingly significant.

Yeah, I guess that's true. But how long do you think 6GB would last? Because... I think the 980 or 980ti has only 6GB VRAM and that card is still very nice.
