In my opinion, I would definitely go with the Intel processor. I currently have an i7 which I upgraded to from a fx 8350. The difference was extremely noticeable which I assume will be the case also, going from the fx 6300 to an i5. I also would recommend getting an SSD if that would somehow work into your budget. Switching from an HDD to an SSD was easily one of the best upgrades I have ever done to my PC.

CPU: Core i7 5930k     GPU: MSI GTX980 OC      Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 16GB      PSU: Corsair CX750      Motherboard: MSI X99A SLI PLUS  Case: NZXT Phantom 410     Storage: 2x256GB Samsung SSDs RAID 0      Display: ASUS 1ms 60hz 1080p

The EVO will be fine. Obviously the first rig, but you're upgrading already after just getting a 1060 3GB?

Yeah I want to move to 1440p sometime in the next months and I feel like it might be limiting.

Also, when I had my 8350 a huge problem I had was overheating. I had it air cooled for the first month of ownership and then switched over to a liquid cooling setup because of the extremely high temperatures I was receiving. Intel processors tend to stay at a much lower temperature overall.

*Will. Even at 1080p, some games are using more than 3GBs of VRAM.
