Hello guys,

i have i3 3240 and im thinking about changing it with i5 2500 (non K). Im not really sure is it worth at all.

Most of the time i use my computer for games like CS:GO (FPS 80-150) and LoL.

Here is my specs

CPU: i3 3240 3MB Cache

GPU: Asus GTX 560 TI Directcu ii 1gb gddr5

RAM: GelL 8GB 1600mhz

MB: ASRock H61M-DGS

PSU: 600W Real Power, PFC Activ, 80 Plus Bronze

SSD: Kingston 240GB

Right now i use my Ram at 1600mhz but with i5 2500 its going to be 1333mhz

Will i see some gaming improvement with i5 2500 ?

Thank you !

I'd save for a more meaningful upgrade (moving to a new platform entirely). But it seems that if you're getting those framerates, you're fine where you are.

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

Try a used i7-2600

They usually go for not a lot

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Even that I'm not so sure about. CSGO just needs a single core. Plus, who the hell watches a video while playing CSGO.

Edit: I just realized that the 2500 is actually clocked higher than the 3240, I take it all back, the 2500 is probably slightly better since its turbo speeds on 1/2 cores should outweigh (or come close to) the IPC improvements of Ivy Bridge. Either way, still not a worthwhile upgrade for CSGO.

Upgrade from a dual-core to a quad-core is a very meaningful upgrade the i5-2500 is greatly more capable and will make your gaming experience a lot better for sure.

so i disagree with what the other said especially if you can make this upgrade for relatively cheap it's a good one:

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-3240-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2500/m2133vsm517

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 2 VR

Why not upgrade to a 6100 or 6500 when there's a sale?

You can keep your GPU, PSU, SSD, case, and maybe your ram depending on the MoBo. It'd be around 200-300~ US if you upgraded platforms.

EDIT:
I'd stick with what you have though. It's plenty powerful for what you play. Evidence in the CSGO frames.

This "upgrade" its going to cost me like 30$, so its not something expensive, im not sure what is better.

I assumed the 3240 was clocked around 3.6ghz and the 2500 around 3.2ghz, being that CSGO is basically single-core bound, the higher clock speed and IPC of the i3 would be better. But I assumed incorrectly, the 2500 turbos high enough that it likely outweighs the IPC improvement of Ivy.

An i5 won't improve your CSGO performance, but for $30 it's a good upgrade if you have any intention of playing any other more demanding games -- although your GPU is still going to bottleneck you before the CPU does in most cases.

More cache on the 2500 too :D

30$ i'd do it in a heart beat the 2500 is a much better CPU than what you have right now.
