Need new mechanical keyboard

Guest
Go to solution Solved by Techicolors,

if you want a complete logitech setup then check out the G610 orion (brown). if uses white LEDs so no blue LEDs but you can turn the backlight off if you like. the RGB is also available but is more expensive and uses romer-g exclusively.

it's also a standard layout so you can switch out the keycaps easily.

the nice thing about the G610 orion too is the somewhat "floaty" design and the fact that it looks quite minimal, not too gaming-oriented.

alternatives is the coolermaster board someone else mentioned. the k65 is nice as well if you do not mind the gaming design and CUE software

there is also the eagletec kg011 office that sports blue LEDs and blue outemu switches. it has a design similar to corsair k70. the only iffy bit is the outemu switches, which last a little less longer than cherry blues but it's nothing to get worked up about, and the keycap legends which is often used in a couple more chinese-oriented keyboards.

there's even more offerings but those are fairly limited to group buys or getting them from more obscure sources.

I need a new mech keyboard. As you can see amount of time I spend on LTT so here are something that I would like to have:

  • MX Blue or Brown. Mainly for typing for now. (any other switch suggestion is nice too but heard blue and brown are nice for typing since I type on LTT and do coding a lot) Never tested them but I tried one of the Razer a while at BestBuy (the one with a keycap showing off so you can test it but did not like it as it was too light)
  • Low budget, as cheap as possible. Used or new doesn't matter. Under 100 CAD (I have ~300 CAD to spend and decided to aim for some mid range 970/1060 3gb and have no spare k/b to replace if I sell the current one so need to get k/b first then gpu). I've seen some Logitech G710+ on kijiji for around 100 CAD. Would prefer to pay less
  • Must have a numpad. Unless the cost justifies it.
  • Backlight is not needed. Though if it does would be nice to be blue but not red or green (white is fine). RGB is also not needed. Though a nice option would be to turn the light off (if they have)
  • Macros is not needed but would be a nice bonus.
  • Brand doesn't matter but Logitech to keep my G402 mouse together with their software is nice to have
  • Also must be wired. USB or 3.5mm passthrough is not needed at all. A wrist rest is cool but also I am already used without one.
  • Forgot to mention. A separate media key or volume key is nice but I can live without it.

I am seeing quite a lot of keyboards and kinda hard to find one

AFAIK Razer switches are very similar to blues (possibly a bit lighter). I'd check out MX Greens/Clears -- heavy blues/browns (clears are my personal favorite), if you found the Razer switches to be too light. (Ducky is probably your best bet in that case since the heavier switches are generally less common)

You do realize there's an RX 480 for less than any GTX 1060 3GB that will 'crush' it right?

I am talking about used ones. RX 480 might do but then I have tiny budget left for a mech. 1060 3gb is cheaper and so does 970.

Thanks for including the blue stickered EVGA.

There are few things that sucks about Canada

Been looking at some myself. I can contact some Kijiji ads and see how low I can get with the 970

  1. Not many people sell GPU in Canada compared to the states
  2. Shipping is international if bought from the states and also I have to pay import tax

You know what, it would really help NAFTA if import tax was removed, but here we are with a President that wants less trade and not more.

G610 looks really appealing and has everything I need but cost. Cheapest at Amazon for ~120 CAD. Ebay even goes more expensive somehow (I guess because the k/b is too nice to sell?)

Looking at K65 now. Forgot to add that I want a numpad. Seems like a nice one but no numpad so kinda off

How is MX blue does in terms of typing?

I've heard Blues are great for typing, but too loud for me. I have Browns and love the tactile feedback and noises that they make on my Strafe. However, if you thought the Razer switches were too light, Blues might be better than browns for you, as they have a greater actuation force of about 5g compared to browns

damn it. I think I am gonna save up for a G610 it looks so amazing

i like how the g610 looks too. i appreciate that logitech didn't go all crazy with PCMR and gaming and kept the g610 minimal design-wise.
