Hey guys and gals,

 

I'm a noob to the computer and I'm trying to build my very own first pc by myself. I have a lil exposure to computers in high school since it was a technology type of school, but that was years ago. I'm currently looking for my components right now. I have chosen the Deepcool Genome II white case with the blue coolant system. I'm building this desktop to video edit, video fx, rendering, general usage, and etc. (YouTube videos). I'm having a hard time which CPU to use. I'm considering the i7-6700k or the i7-6800k. Which CPU would be best for these purposes? I know the 6700k is quad core up to 4ghz and the 6800k is six core up to 3.4 ghz. Also, what will be a good video card with a good amount of power to handle the video editing process too? Any advice would be EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!! Thanks

Ps. I was considering the z97 motherboard or the x99 motherboard from Gigabyte

For gpu, id go 1060.

Adobe premiere. All their programs. 1060..i will start looking. Name brands doesn't really matter as long as they are reliable, right? Thanks

Honestly, if it were me, I'd probably save the pennies and buy a 6700 and spend the extra cash on a better GPU/monitor etc. Especially for your first rig I don't see a reason to grab an x99. Sure the render times would be slightly better, but I don't really see broadwell E as a good investment.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.
