How many watts do I really need?

Fey

I've went to few shops and they keep telling me that I need around 650W of PSU, but most PSU CALC website told me that I just need maybe around 350W.

My build is similar to the $1000 PC build on Holiday's buyer guide 2016 video, and linustechtips just chose a 500W PSU.

Should I just go with 500W or go with what those shops telling me?

My build:

i5-6600

MSI B150M Mortar

Kingston ddr4 8gb ram

ZOTAC GTX1070 AMP Edition

WD 1TB

Tecware F3

A 1070 and locked i5 will realistically never use more than 250W.

For you a Corsair RMx 550W or EVGA GS/G2/GQ/B2 would be solid. Of those 550W is the lowest wattage you can buy.

Well you only need like a decent 80+ power supply from a reputable brand that is over 400watts. Id suggest 500W 80+ Bronze minimum, if you want your PC to look great though for a decent fully modular power supply.

You'd be fine with 500-550W. Just get a power supply that is one of decent quality.

Cue the LTT PSU Tier List. Anything from T1-T3 is fine.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

I agree, although your system will come around 400w, you should have a bit of head room.

ok thanks for all the replies.

the shop that I went don't sell Corsair or EVGA PSU :/

How's Aerocool KCAS 500w 80+ Bronze 3 Years Warranty, it's quite cheap compare to others:D

A quality 450w would be good for that system. Do you have a link to the store you are buying from? Also, what your budget?

I don't think they have a website, but I have their pricelist. RM is the currency of my country and it stands for Ringgit Malaysia.

So you have a budget of around 200 MYR / 45 USD? I would need to do a bit of research on that Aerocool as it's a 230V only, budget PSU (not available where I'm from), but I don't have time to do so.

If you can spend about 100 MYR / 22.50 USD more, the Seasonic S12II-B 620w would  be my recommendation, as it is a solid budget unit; although, it is overkill for your system. See if you can ask them if they have the 430w or 520w model at a cheaper price. Maybe the list isn't completely updated.

How much are you willing to spend?

Power supplies that are decent (e.g. Tier 3/4 and better), from low price to high...

  1. BeQuiet! L8 600W
  2. SeaSonic S12 II 620W
  3. CoolerMaster G550M
  4. SuperFlower Leadex 550W
  5. SeaSonic M12 II 620W (semi-modular verion of the S12 II)

IMO either the SeasSonic S12 II, or the Superflower Leadex Silver -- quality AND price wise.

How's Aerocool KCAS & Silverstone Essential I wonder:o

I'll try to ask for SeaSonic S12II 520W

If not, I'll choose between BeQuiet! L8 600W & SeaSonic S12II 620W
