Good question, i don't know. The only thing i see as a possible prob is the change in serial number and windows not activating as a result.

It should boot up just fine but if you have any issues just call microsoft and they'll fix your issue as long as you weren't using pirated software prior.

Windows takes note of your hardware serial numbers to identify the machine its installed to.

I have changed gpus, cpus, ram, and never had a prob but i have heard of some people having windows authentication probs after changing hardware.

You won't need to reinstall Windows. The most you should have to do, if it even happens at all, is call Microsoft to explain to them what happened and get help reactivating. It's not hard. Maybe Windows won't even notice.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Okay, noted, but if i end up having to reinstall windows, i can just add in a new drive and install it on that rite? and the other will just stay fine i presume, they will just be labeled as a new letter drive

You won't need to reinstall Windows. You'll just call up Microsoft and tell them you had to change the mobo. They'll reactivate it for you. Linus once explained this in a video.

I just moved from intel g3258 and asrock z97 anniversary motherboard to an fx8300 and an m5a990fx pro r2.0 motherboard without any issues with windows, it didn't even ask for activation, don't know if this will hold with a reinstall and I am using an Microsoft account with windows 10.
