Transferring from OSX

Hi guys! I have used OS X basically my whole life and I am switching to win-10 today. I know next to nothing about windows. I know it supports more programs than OS X and I can do much more compared to OS X but I like mac's multiple desktops, just control - left or right to go to a new screen if messy. I'm pretty sure windows don't have multiple desktops. Only one. I heard of Cortana and it's similarity to siri in OS X Sierra. Things I don't know are how to manage my storage, how to trash stuff, and basically everything. I don't know the things like :"?/:: My hard drive thingies, How to config hdds and SSds, etc. Can someone help me use windows? Thanks!

With my AMD APU/GPU, with cataclyst controll center, I can set up multiple desktops... Tested it, and it worked. (not using it however) So multiple desktops will be possible with software under windows.

 

At your other questions... It's all so simple with windows. And you are just asking so many things. Windows manages almost all drives, for example. You will most likely don't have to set-up anything. And well, I suggest you should just try things out, and if something isn't clear, ask specific questions. (or use google)

Mac OSX is soo much better then Windows really.

i dont really see many good reasons to switch from a fairly reasonable secure OS, to pile of malware that Windows10 is.

I think that switching to Linux might make more sense.

Because Mac OSX under the hood is very similar.

But on Linux you have a way larger open source software repository availeble.

Unless you really need certain Windows only applications.

Or if you want to play specific Windows only games.

Then i could get it, but otherwise not really.

As someone who switched, most day to day use is pretty similar. Just have to use Control instead of Command, and a couple of other little differences like that. The C:, D:, G: drive names are just their 'numbering.' External drives will need to be either NTFS or ExFat if you want them to work on windows (ExFat for mac and windows). Task view in win 10 works kinda like expose in OSX. In explorer windows, or under right clicking a lot of options are available that are usually hidden in a Mac's "Utilities" folder so keep in mind to look there. 

Viruses aren't as big of a deal as you may think. Just be smart and have some proper AV installed and you'll be good. 

Trashing stuff works pretty much identically. It's just renamed to "Recycle Bin" and like the Trash on macs you'll need to empty it to properly delete it. Once you find your bearings most operation should be easy. OSX is nice in some ways but I'm glad I made the switch, the added software compatibility is a real bonus. Using a computer in way I want to is actually possible now.

Windows 10 natively supports multiple desktops on one monitor, I believe they can be switched by using Windows+Tab.

 

 

 

As many differences as there are between macOS and Windows 10, there are also many, many similarities. Even so, currently your questions seems to come down to 'how do I use Windows?', and that's a pretty broad question.

 

 

Since you're asking how to configure SSDs and HDDs, let's start with an important question: Do you have a computer with a working copy of Windows 10 already installed, or are you still in the process of building or installing your Windows PC?

Are you sure you want to make a full transition? If you still want to keep OS X/macOS, you can and you can just dual boot.

It you aren't playing games there is no reason to switch to Windows. Linux has all.

Windows does have Muti Desktop Support but Not baked into the OS if you have any dedicated GPU you will get this feature for free.  As for HDDs/SSD & Flash Drives its all simply done Right Clicking them in My PC and clicking format and the Formats will be MUCH more universal then when you used a mac. incase you hook it up to a tv to play videos or a router ect.

Windows 10 does have multiple desktops baked into the OS, to see them you have to click in Task View and then in New Desktop.

I also switched from macOS to Windows recently, it's not that difficult to get used to the change, for me the most difficult part was transferring my files from my external drive because it was formatted with " Mac OS Extended" and that's a format that Windows doesn't reads.

Windows 10 supports multiple desktops with a single click.
