The CPU gets up to 90C and throttles while the GPU is severely down clocked or throttles. It is too thin for what it has

This is what I needed to hear. I rarely game and when I do it's more casual than anything (cities skylines, minecraft, worms, etc.) I was looking at this over the new MacBook Pro thinking I was going to love it in the long run for gaming but I was really sad to not have MacOS since I use Logic Pro and Final Cut a good bit. guess I'll go with the new MBP then.

Where can I get that ratio and sacrifice .3 in - WITHOUT tacky design? That's my main reason I am looking at the blade. Hell, the gamer-font was a dealbreaker until the most recent generation even on the Blade.

MSI should sell this^ a GS63vr barebones without the MSI branding. 

 

It's an overpriced GS63VR. But I like the look of it. GS63VR thermals are fine with a repaste. Downside is that battery life is shit, but that's acceptable.

The blade 1060 is NOT downclocked to 1000MHz. I'm not reviewing it but I have one. It runs at 1600-1700 in Crysis 3.

 

There was a firmware bug causing it to THINK it was thermal throttling and kill CPU performance, but I got the fix on Monday. Much better now

So monday's firmware push makes the Blade's 1060 viable comparing to other 1060 laptops? What about the QC issues I've heard so much about? I hadn't heard any problems with QC until now- in your videos you didn't seem to experience it either.

I think this is a little misleading.

 

1. I wouldn't say that Razer is necessarily behind as much and CPUs haven't advanced that far in speed in the last couple years. The main advancements with CPUs have been size and efficiency. 

 

2. Prema is not your average use case

 

3. Doesn't factor in other aspects of that makes laptops, laptops. Like form factor, battery life, etc

 

4. In real world performance, you won't notice a difference, unless you're doing something that's very intensive you won't notice a difference if you do it will be very miniscule.

Firestrike is simply a reflection or real world performance. So if you get like a 8000 firestrike score, actually real world performance in games will be significantly lower.

 

But yes, Prema is a special case, I'm just saying on Clevo's with the proper bios support, things can kill it. If you look down that list there are tons of random users with the likes of a GS63VR or a GE62 that get over 10k in firestrike. My point being that Razer still has lowered performance compared to others. The EC fix only addresses the PROCHOT issue, there are still plenty of users on the Razer Insider link addressing issues of stuttering even with PROCHOT disabled on TS. 

 

Finally to add insult to injury, the EC firmware fix doesn't even address low performance in other user's case. It's still literally a lottery.

I just placed my order on HIDevolution for my Blade, ended up saving a coupel bucks and going with the 960 Evo instead of the Pro. Also got my discount from the NBR Forums, after the cashback and discount it should total out to about $2300. 

 

I'll report back my results when it arrives.

Hey all, 

 

I normally lurk around these parts but I had to post in here after recieving my 2016 Blade 14" yesterday...

 

It's damn nice. Really quick and responsive but there seemingly is one major issue I'm having here... fan noise.

Holy crap, even at idle this thing is the loudest laptop in the room. Sitting on my desk at work browsing chrome you can hear my fans from a 2 cubes away. This seems to be a pretty common thing over on the Razer forums but I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it. I even tried undervolting and its still loud.

I get the small form factor is a trade off but Jesus the fan curves are horrible. I have a mini leaf blower on my desk at all times meanwhile the quad core $700 dell next to me is virtually silent. It's honestly making me think about returning it.
