Non gaming Cherry MX Blue keyboard

Lord Nicoll

My mum happened to use my Razer Blackwidow with Razer Green clicky keys and decided she had to have one like it. Not that older people can't have gaming keyboards, I just felt a typist oriented keyboard with MX Blue keys would be better suited but I haven't found a good not all that gamer one. She also doesn't like the full travel keys but for Cherry MX Blues they don't make low travel versions (and why would they, Blues are all about that travel and not bottoming out the key with each press). Anyone one know any typist oriented ones or gaming ones that aren't all that flashy?

Yours faithfully

Buy a test kit so she can try out each key type, or go to the store and try some displays. she might like MX reds if she doesn't like high travel.

She liked the click and the tactile bump,, I have showed her Reds before and she didn't like them that much,

ditto,

Typist to me sounds like one of those ergonomic ones, like Microsoft's Wave.

There are other keyboards that are gaming with membrane keys, I'm not sure if they provide things like roll over or anti-ghosting though.

Well, the main thing needed is a decent wrist rest, since you'd rest your hand when not typing, also Ditto about the click and tactile bump.

How about the Corsair Strafe? It's about as plain as a keyboard can get.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/N4dFf7/corsair-keyboard-ch9000226na

There's also the Rosewill. Basically the same thing, more expensive.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/9mGj4D/rosewill-keyboard-rk9000v2

This looks like a killer deal, and was the cheapest  Cherry one I could find with a wrist rest.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fnatic-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B01EI201TK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1480114934&sr=8-10&keywords=cherry+mx+blue

If you ignore the logo, it's not that bad.

You could also try this one. It doesn't use Cherry switches, but neither did your Razer.

You didn't mention a budget, if you go north of 100 pound there's several Corsair keyboards that fit the bill

You can buy o rings to stick around the keys if you want to reduce the travel. A set cost me $10.

Unfortunately I don't know much about Ireland, I only assumed that the UK Amazon site ships there.

Most "typing oriented" keyboards are significantly more expensive as they're pretty niche and often used by people in offices.

Easily written off as a business expense by the company.

I find Reds have just as much travel as Blues.

The Fnatic Gear Rush looks perfect. Given she does a lot of typing I'm surprised she hasn't gotten one already, but she hasn't used a mechanical keyboard since the 80's when they were a little more common since membrane wasn't as widely used.

Look at Filco Majestouch Ninja or Majestouch 2.

If you're looking for TKL, look into KUL ES-87

Maybe you've never heard of them but they're not your average keyboards.

Haha yeah. I'd just make sure that she won't mind the oddly shaped enter button. I can't stand that layout.

I'm disappointed that I haven't seen Ducky come up so far.

Ducky keyboards... Too flashy?

What degree of flashiness are you looking for?

The only UK layout ones I found had an awful blue tinted translucent body, that just looks terrible, plus the price was a lot more than competitors.

Oh. Well, requiring a UK layout makes the selection quite a bit thinner.

And the price is higher because the quality is phenomenal. Might not be worth it for a lot of people, but it's absolutely justifiable.

A lot of keyboards are made with it, just means any seller outside of the EU is not an option (already not an option like that from 23% + import tax). All Keyboards sold online and in store in the EU English speaking areas (and quite a few others) have the same layout but the keys might have different accents and punctuation on parts.

The UK layout makes it a bit more complicating, but Ducky keyboards are pretty simplistic. Quite far from your typical gaming look.
